A girl sat on her balcony with a cigarette in her hand and her computer on, her English essay pulled up, with headphones blaring music in her ear.
Ema's last semester of college was kicking her ass. She huffed as she took a drag and leaned back examining her work.
Average.
She erased her whole essay and brought her hands up and closed her eyes.
She felt the dryness in them and the familiar pain of sleeplessness creeping up.
She had one more essay to write and her homework would be done for the week.
One more.
She ran a hand through her hair and started typing.

Ema sat in bio with her head on the counter. Her eyes were closed and her mind was elsewhere.Asleep. She was asleep.
She had been up, on the phone with her boss and they were discussing her hours.
The teacher just ignored her. Typically students shouldn't be sleeping but Ema had some of the highest marks and always showed up to class on time so they weren't complaining.
Ema was in an advanced hero program. She needed all the help she could get to become a hero and a bachelors in hero studies would help a lot.
Her quirk was always viewed as a villainous quirk.
Fear. That was her power, if she could get them to talk to her, she could figure out their biggest fear and use it against them.
She'd only used it once, when she was fighting during her highschool years during the UA sports festival and the kid tried to get her expelled.
She hadn't used it since and got by with fighting alone.
She jumped awake hearing the bell and walked to the front to grab the worksheet.
"Don't overwork yourself." The teacher held the worksheet to his chest.
"I'm not. My cat just kept me awake."
The teacher gave her a weird look but handed her the homework.
She gave a small smile and walked down to the next class.
She rubbed her eyes and stopped at a random vending machine.
She bought an energy drink and quickly walked to her class.

Walking into the cafe, she rushed to the bathroom to change into her uniform.
A dark brown polo, and black jeans with her typical converse.
She walked over to her manager as she tied her apron.
"Sorry I'm late."
"Your right in time actually." Her manager smiled as the clock turned to 3.
Ema smiled and went to the back to grab extra bakery items.
"Did you get the croissants started?" Ema asked Tanaka, her co worker.
"No why?"
"Why have you been doing?" She stopped working the coffee machine.
He shrugged. "I took some orders." Ema gave him and look and walked closer to him.
"Did you think to be useful for once."
"Ok ok." Her manager walked over and sent Tanaka to the dish pit.
"Careful. You're a good employee but you still need to watch the attitude."
Ema rolled her eyes but resumed putting the machine back together.
"Tough day?" She looked up to see a scrawny blonde man.
"Sorry I didn't see you there." Ema walked over.
"I just got here." Ema smiled. "What can I get for you?"
"Black coffee."
"That's it?"
The man chuckled. "It's for my co worker."
Ema gave an awkward smile and handed him a coffee that had already been made.
"It's past 6pm."
"He doesn't sleep."
Ema nodded and waved the man goodbye.
~~
Ema walked into her apartment and was met with her cat running over and rubbing against her leg.
"Hey Koi." She picked the black cat up and walked to her bedroom to sit and relax for a sec.
Her cat meowed loudly and Ema chuckled walking back to the kitchen to feed her cat.
"There." She watched the cat run over and began eating.
"Fatass." she mumbled.
She stood up straight and walked to her balcony to have a smoke and work on her bio homework.
She took a deep breathe after inhaling the toxic smoke and began filing out the sheet.
It was 8:30 and the packet shouldn't take to long and she was praying she could get a good nights sleep.
