I was leaning on my broom, spacing out from what I was doing.
Sigh.
It seems like all I could do these days is sigh. My life right now is very boring, I am definitely missing my exhilarating college life.
I graduated just a year ago and am now 22, still hot, and working for an apparent "rich businessman". I majored in education because I wanted to be a teacher. But it's common knowledge teachers don't make much, and with all the loans from college I couldn't do that job.
Thankfully my mother hooked me up with a job that gets me 5000 dollars a month, plus I live in the house I clean. Well sorta. I work as a housekeeper with two other people but I have never met the owner of the house.
"Ariel, quit your daydreaming and get to cleaning. This house needs to be spotless or your gone."
I rolled my eyes at my annoying boss, Mary. "I wasn't daydreaming, and I cleaned everything I have to. It's not like anyone is ever here so nothing is dirty anyways."
"We still have to clean though, I'm not trying to lose my job. Go over everything you did already then make all the floors in the whole house shine."
I dropped my broom on the ground. "I refuse. I did my daily work."
She looked at the broom on the floor, then at me. "Johnny! Our worker quit! I need you to find someone else for the job!!"
He appeared out of nowhere.
How can such an old man move so fast?
I smiled and picked up the broom. "I was kidding miss, right away."
I went back over all the unused bathrooms, empty bedrooms, the multiple unused living rooms, the grand dining room and the kitchen, cleaning them all thoroughly. Then I went on my hands and knees to shine all the marble floors of the house. That alone is the reason I have back problems.
It's a shame all my hard work is going to waste on a house no one lives in. After cleaning everything I returned to my room in the servants house and laid down to take a nap. But before I could close my eyes there was a knock at the door.
Ugh.
I got up and walked to my rooms door and opened it. Of course it was my boss. Probably here to tell me to clean the fridge or the mirrors or something. "Yes?"
"I need you to go and clean everything over again-"
"No. Nope. I refuse for real this time. I already cleaned. TWICE." She frowned at me and continued her sentence.
"-then set up the dining table and put some greenery around the house. The owner of the house will be visiting the house with his family for a dinner."
Oh. Ohhh. "Finally! This is way past due. I'll go clean everything, again, for the third time today, may I add."
She stared at me. "No, no you may not. After cleaning, make sure to dress appropriately as you will be serving the family also. It's just Johnny, you, and I."
"What will you be doing while I clean?" I crossed my arms and glared at her.
"I will be hiring a gardener to spruce up the front of the house, a handyman to check for anything broken, a chef to make a five star course, and preparing other things around the house that you aren't. I will be following right behind you to check on your cleaning also. There can be no mess ups tonight."
Wow. A hard worker.
As soon as she left I went and cleaned the house AGAIN. This time I went in detail and make sure everything was clean, from the wall and floors to the light switches and charging ports. Then I went to my room and dressed in a black dress with puffy sleeves and tied a white lacy edged apron on top of it. I completed the outfit with a pair of short white socks and short black heeled shoes.
After dressing I went to the main house and met up with Mary and Johnny. There were also dressed like me but more modest because they're both old.
I could smell the food cooking in the kitchen and it was divine. We all waited around for the "boss" and his family for what felt like ages. Until finally they arrived.
Cars stared pulling up as if on cue. Many people started walking in house and handing us their coats and bags to put away. There were old men, old women, young men, young women, younger men and women, children, and even a little dog. But so far, no sign of the "big boss".
I was getting a little too excited. I hadn't seen this much people in forever. I was also excited about meeting this "boss". Maybe a little scared too.
When he walked in, you could tell. Everyone fell silent. My jaw dropped in awe. This man was hella fine.
