It has been a few days that Katie had stayed in the camp, thanks to her wounds. Dutch, and mostly Arthur, had forbidden her to join on any jobs, wanting her to rest properly. So she had spent the last couple of days within the camp, feeling the urge to do something, not being able to lie around and do nothing. She was helping the other women with their chores, getting to know Sadie and Kieran, and taking over guard duty.

She was now sitting on an old fence, smiling as she watched Sadie and Sean shooting at some glass bottles that she had brought along. Sadie had asked her to take her out, wanting to run with the men and join in on jobs. The widow was tired of staying in the camp, and Katie understood her. She stayed in camp only for a couple of days and already felt the urge to leave and make some money. So she decided to take Sadie out of camp and make her shoot at the bottles to have a look at how the other woman was able to handle a gun.
Sean had decided to join them, saying something about how someone had to protect the women in any case of danger.

The three of them had left the camp in the morning and found an abandoned meadow near the border of Lemoyne. Katie had placed the empty bottles on rocks a couple of feet away that were different in height and sat on the fence as she watched Sean and Sadie.
They both stood next to each other and made a bet about who could shoot the most bottles.

It didn't really surprise Katie that Sean was losing the bet with Sadie.
The Irish man was known to have a big mouth, and with that, he mostly started trouble but didn't end it. He missed most of his shots, aiming too fast and sloppy.
Sadie, on the other hand, nearly hit every of the bottles she was aiming at. She handled her gun more steadily and was more controlled than Sean.

Katie stood up and walked over to them as they finished shooting the last remaining bottles. Slightly patting Sean's shoulder.

"Well, MacGuire, I think you have to face the truth that you lost against a woman who joined the gang only a few months ago. And how long have you been riding with us now? A few years? It's a shame that you still can't shoot." She smiled at the Irish men as he turned around to face her and the other women.

"Nah, you know I'm better than that. I've just let her win because she is a woman." Sean smiled at both of them while Katie rolled her eyes at him.

"I'm just glad that this is not your job. We would be all dead with you going out with us." She pointed towards the bottles, reminding him that he missed almost every one of his shots.

"You know, you're just as grumpy as Morgan. You two really fit each other. My pa always used to say-"

"No, not that again." Katie held her hands up to stop him from talking. She had heard enough stories about his father within the last couple of days.

"You're really no fun to talk to. Anyway, I have to go. Meeting Hosea and Arthur at the Braithwaites. Something about their moonshine." He bid them both farewell and turned around to mount his horse, riding off to meet the others.

Katie and Sadie looked at each other and let out a sigh as they walked towards their own horses.

"When are we going out to ride with the others?" Sadie was still determined to join them on their jobs.

"You should talk to Dutch about this. I mean, I could take you with me for something small, robbing a house or something like that. But he decides if you can join on the big things." They pushed their horses into a trot to ride back to camp.

"I'm able to handle a gun. I already had a run-in with the Lemoyne Raiders when I went out with Arthur to get some groceries a few weeks ago." Katie knew what she was talking about. Arthur had told her about it. And she was glad that Sadie knew how to protect herself.
