CHAPTER 1: Breaking Point

SUZY POV

I was all smile as I jog-walk towards the backyard of our school. I was going to surprise my boyfriend Kai. Today is the last day of the junior year and our 100th day as a couple so I set up something romantic in the rooftop so we can celebrate it together.

We are childhood friends, her dad and mine were best buds so I stayed over in their house every summer to play because he is an only child and we are of the same age. Little by little, I developed feelings for him. But it was not mutual at first, he is popular and a girlfriend-hopper so I got hurt a hundred of times but still believe that we are really destined for each other. Then one day, he confessed, I was surprised, it was a dream come true for me. It was like in those romantic love stories where an ordinary girl and the popular guy met, fell in love, got married and made lots of children. Yes, I am a hopeless romantic with dirty mind and that is a secret only the two of us know.

I saw him and his bestfriend, Taemin, their back facing me. I tiptoed quietly towards them, planning to back-hug him but stopped when I heard my name. I grinned assuming that Kai is bragging about me so like a curious cat, I hide behind the walls to hear their conversation.

"Man, you serious with Bae? You've been with her for over 3 months now. Quite rare for you." His friend Taemin asked.

"Nah. I'm just using her to cover my playboy image. Don't tell anyone but I'm secretly seeing Hani too, you know." Kai boasted.

After hearing that, I felt my heart stopped. I'm waiting for the 'I'm Kidding' part but it didn't come. No! This is so not true.. Hani is not like that! She is my friend! She knows that we are together and I love him, I told myself but then I remember what happened last week.

I accidentally saw Kai and Hani came out in the science lab alone. I asked him about it because the lights were out but he told me that Hani just needs help in their experiment. I was quite confused because Hani is smart, she didn't anyone's help in academics but I still believed him. Now that I think about it, I didn't ask what kind of experiment they did. Stupid me.

"Woah! I didn't know about that! Lucky you." Taemin commented.

"Lucky her! She threw herself at me. Who am I to refuse?" The two boys laughed.

My heart ached. I covered my ears afraid of what I will hear. I don't want to hear this. It must be a prank. Yeah, it should be. Maybe, my plan backfired and I am the one who is going to be surprised.

"There are lots of girls here, why Suzy? She is your childhood friend right?"

"Yeah. That is the reason why. I know her very well. She likes me for years and she is .. watchamacallit? Innocent? Dense? She cooks lunch for me and she also helps me with school stuffs. But she is too plain for me." He rolled his eyes and Taemin laughed.

A tear fell from my eyes. I felt my throat dry and tried to control my sob. Shit. I can't believe I am hearing this. My knees weakened and I fell on the ground. Please stop. Please wake me up. Wake me up in this nightmare.
