Solas and Lavellan had just returned from Crestwood, when Cole rushed to Solas and told him that he was needed. Solas left with him to the direction of the tavern and Lavellan was left alone to the main gates. Her heart was wrecked and she was holding back the tears that almost bursted from her eyes. She quietly walked to her quarters, laying on the bed as she finally let the tears rush down her face. For a brief moment, she wanted to run to Solas and insist him to tell her why. But she knew him too well. It wouldn't help. Lavellan got up from her bed, gathered her gear and headed to the stables.
At the stables, Blackwall tried to question where she was going, but she couldn't say; even she did not know. She mounted her hart and galloped out of the main gate. Many confused faces watched as she disappeared into the distance.Lavellan was riding towards the Exalted Plains. She felt a sudden urge to fight and she knew that many Venatori and Red Templar camps were in the area. As she reached the Path of Flame Camp, she filled her supplies and headed out. Some scouts expressed their worry, but she ignored them and left. One worried scout sent a bird to Skyhold, telling where the Inquisitor was. Leliana received word of her whereabouts and was about to send spies to tail her, but Dorian had heard the conversation and volunteered to go. He had heard about what happened between Solas and Lavellan and he had a good guess about what she was doing. He took Solas, Cole and Iron Bull with him and rode to the Exalted Plains.
As they arrived to the camp, Cole sensed the fragments of pain Lavellan had left:
"Too broken, too angry, hating and hurting... We must find her", Cole mumbled and pointed at the direction where he felt it. "There." Solas became worried, trying to push away the thought that Lavellan might get hurt because of him. He followed Cole as they arrived to the Fens Camp. Iron Bull questioned the scouts if they had seen Lavellan, which they had. They had sent a scout to watch her, but she had noticed him and quickly vanished from his sight. The scout said that she was last seen near The Dead Hand, and that's where Dorian then led them.
They were catching up on Lavellan and Cole felt it. He felt her pain as it was his own. Cole held his head and shook it around, as if he was having a headache.
"No! She hurts, she hurts...!" he shouted and after a small pause, he continued with a small, whimpering voice: "Waiting, wanting, she hurts herself so she could forget the pain that he caused. She hates him, but she doesn't want to. She hurts, so she could hate herself more than him. Turn around, she hears them and wants it to stop, dropping her bow and finally losing... Ahh!" Cole screams and holds his leg in pain and Solas and Dorian realize what happened.
"Go! She can't last much longer!" Dorian shouted to Solas who charged with Iron Bull to the next room where they found Lavellan laying on the ground in front of an Arcane Horror. They fought it and Cole and Dorian joined the fight briefly afterwards. When they finally killed the demon, Solas rushed to Lavellan and kneeled next to her. He cast small wards to keep the most fatal wounds from killing her immediately and Cole gave some bandages from his pack to Solas for him to block the bleeding. Iron Bull then lifted her up and carried her back to the Fens Camp, from where they set off to Skyhold.
Lavellan woke up from her bed, covered in her silken covers, aching. She lifted the covers and slid her feet to ground, but when she tried to stand, she fell. Rushing footsteps came towards her and she felt soft hands lifting her up from the ground. She looked up and her heart ached; it was Solas. He lifted her back to the bed and backed away, giving her space. She wanted to turn her gaze away, but she couldn't. Something in him still pulled her and she couldn't escape it. For a minute they only stared at each other, until Lavellan quickly turned her glance to the ground and mumbled:
"I... Thank you."
Solas nodded and looked out the window. "It was not my doing", he said. "Dorian was the one who found out where you had gone."
"Oh... I must remember to thank him, then", Lavellan replied grumpily. She retired back under the covers and asked Solas to leave. He insisted on staying, saying that it was necessary to have someone watching over her, in case her condition got worse, but Lavellan told him to get someone else to do that. Solas felt hurt, withdrawing from the Inquisitor's room.Four days later the Inquisitor had mostly recovered from her wounds, though a large gash in her leg was still healing. She stood on the balcony of her room, watching the people in Skyhold. She heard the door of her room open, but didn't turn her head to see who it was. She sighed and put her hands on the railings, leaning on it as she slowly breathed in.
"Inquisitor."
She heard from behind her. She knew it was him. She didn't want to see him, saving herself from even more heartache, so she turned around and rushed past him, jumping over the railings to the stairs and stumbling over. Lavellan quickly stood up and walked as fast as she could towards the main hall, but her legs couldn't carry her. She fell down to the cold wooden floor. The ragged carpets softened her landing, but she still wounded her hands on the wooden splinters sticking out of the floor. She whimpered in pain as Solas ran to her. He sat down next to her and lifted her in his arms. Lavellan tried to hold back the tears, but she couldn't. She hugged Solas from the bottom of her heart and Solas hugged her back, lifting her higher. She snorted a few times, trying to calm herself, when she caught a faint smile on Solas's face. She pressed herself against him and quietly heard him say:
"I'm so sorry, vhenan. At lath ma..."
Neither of them were in a hurry to go anywhere. They sat there without caring about anything. Lavellan didn't care about the pain anymore. She was right where she wanted to be, in Solas's arms, close to him. She loved him, despite all the pain he caused. Something in him drew her, and she surrendered herself to that something. She was his.
