"I Think His Empty Threats are Empty"
After my formal introduction with the strange boy, Izuku Midoriya no longer appeared at the bridge. I began to think that I had scared him away. Yaoyorozu would still occasionally question me on who it was that approached me that day, though I doubt it still seemed that I was bothered by the exchange I had with Midoriya that day. Although I no longer cared for the anxiety induced by our brief interaction, the guilty feeling that had only grown since I first encountered his stare, though no longer grew, did not fade. I did not get the answer to why Midoriya's stare seemed to hold such a hateful weight, and I began to think I would never know why. But sure enough, as I walked out of school with Yaoyorozu, I saw him.
The odd boy was conversing with a classmate of mine, Katsuki Bakugo, an arrogant fiend who was hardly ever seen with anyone other than his few fellow delinquents. As the scene was beginning to draw eyes other than my own, the blond brute started to become outwardly agitated the longer Midoriya would talk to him. It seemed that sooner or later Bakugo would almost certainly burst into a fit of rage at the smaller boy. Seeing the explosion about to ignite from their interaction, I departed from the side of Yaoyorozu and found my way over to the pair. Bakugo became startled as soon as he noticed me, his eyebrows becoming furrowed.
"What are you doin' here, asshole?" he spat.
"You look like you're about to punch Midoriya in the face."
Bakugo soon wore a concerned expression after mentioning Midoriya by name.
"You know him?" he said as he tilted his thumb toward the shorter boy. "How?"
I look over to Midoriya, "We crossed paths a few days ago."
Bakugo snapped his head toward the green-haired boy and started yelling at him, Midoriya looking at him with a gleam in his eyes, only smiled at him. Bakugo was furious– though I didn't understand why– he looked as if a blood vessel was about to burst. He suddenly grabbed Midoriya by the collar and pulled him towards himself, snarling. The smaller boy only had to place his hand on the larger teen's forearm for Bakugo to tense up. Feeling the pressure grow, I was prepared to jump in the way of Bakugo throwing a hook at Midoriya's face. A moment passed with nothing happening, Midoryia seeming unphased by what was transpiring, and the rage building up inside Bakugo, the fraught situation soon ended without anything occurring.
"Whatever, I'm outta here," He scoffed, slinging his bag over his shoulder as he walked away.
Astonished at what had just taken place, I asked Midoriya if he was okay as Yaoyorozu approached after spectating the scene.
"Yeah," he responded.
Changing the subject, I questioned why he no longer came to the bridge in the mornings. Midoriya simply confirmed my
what I had thought, assuming that I didn't want to be near him. Unexpectedly, Midoriya expressed a sort of embarrassment at how he approached me. Reminded of his bitter stare, I found myself wanting to make peace with the strange boy. As a symbol of this, I offered him a vanilla candy hidden in the pocket of my blazer. Looking at the wrapped ball of sugar in the palm of my hand for a moment before taking it in his, Midoriya then quickly but carefully untwisted its wrapper and placed it in his mouth. As Midoriya crunched up the candy, we shared a brief smile, Yaoyorozu soon pulling me away from the green-haired boy, we said our goodbyes and departed.
Now home, while I made dinner a notification from my phone rings out from the counter. Glancing at my screen, I notice that I received a message from Bakugo. I had forgotten I had his contact, having exchanged numbers with him at the beginning of the year for a school project. Despite not seeming the type, Bakugo was surprisingly academic.
Taking a moment to wash my hands before picking up my phone, the text read: "Whatever deal you have with Deku isn't going to have any good come from it."
"Who is Deku?" I asked.
"The green-haired freak."
"What do you mean by deal? I pass by him on the way to school."
"Don't talk to him anymore unless you want to get hurt, asshole."
My eyes began to hurt from the glare of my phone. I had been staring at my screen, attempting to decipher what Bakugo was saying, finding his sudden threats odd. Bakugo almost never talks to me, he has an attitude, but he mostly shoves people he doesn't like to the side unless they pick a fight with him."Empty threats," I assured myself. Bakugo wouldn't hurt me, not unless I asked for it.
