I watched the sun slowly rise, it was 6:15 am. Great, i had stayed up the entire night for my first day of school.

I quite literally couldn't sleep due to nervousness and anticipation. It was my first day at my new high school.

although it wasn't your average high school...

*2 months earlier*

"w-what?!" i said bewildered.

"Yes, you have been chosen for a scholarship at Gray Forest Academy, if you accept this offer you are to start during the first semester of August 2022." the woman on the phone explained.

Gray Forest Academy was the most prestigious high school in all of Illinois, and third in America. You would only be at that school if you were extremely rich or extremely smart, no in between.

The woman explained how there are scouts for Gray Forest who look through every high school in Illinois and chooses 15 of the smartest students for a free ride.

and apparently I had been one of those 15...

"T-thank you ma'am i'm honored!! this is an amazing opportunity and i'm grateful you all have set your sights on me!" I said expressing my gratitude.

"It's our pleasure, you did have the highest grades in your entire school for freshman and sophomore year after all, you deserve it Ms Geneva." the woman said to me kindly.

"Thank you ma'am.." I was still in shock at this entire thing.

The woman went on to explain how she emailed every piece of information I needed regarding the school, and told me they would have a conference about everything with me and my father.

I thanked her once again and we ended the call.

I ran at top speeds to go tell my father who was in the other room. We both cheered together and my father actually started crying. He took me out for ice cream to celebrate.

and 2 months later, summer is over and it's time to actually attend the school now...

I got up and began my routine. I looked at my self in the mirror while brushing my teeth and thinking.

The school was filled with a shitload of rich kids, over 85% had some sort of wealth in their family.

I was nervous with how I would fit in, I was just an average girl from a middle class family who happened to be there because of my grades.

My grades were amazing though, since middle school I made sure I never got anything less then an A and less than a 95%.

I'm a junior in high school now and been keeping up with that pattern since.

All for you, mom...

I knew I had to make an amazing first impression, physically and socially.

the first thing a person sees when they look at you is your appearance and clothing. This would be even more emphasized due to everyone being judgy rich kids.

I was so glad the school had a uniform, so that's one weight lifted off my shoulders.

I hopped in the shower, making sure I scrubbed myself clean. I loved morning showers because they woke me up and got me energized.

I then got out and began to dry myself, and used all my toiletries.

the uniform was nice and simple, perfect for the academy look.

It consisted of a button up white collar shirt with a gray blazer. The boys had a blue tie and blue slacks. The girls had a blue ribbon and a blue skirt with knee high socks.

I put on the uniform and then began doing my makeup and hair.

I had long, curly hair since i was a child. Due to being raised half my life with only my white father, i never knew how to properly maintain and style it until recently.

In middle school i would straighten my hair every day due to hating my curls. I'm glad that i've learned to love them again in high school.

they reminded me of my mother.

I put my hair into a half up half down with two curly strands in the front.

I then did my makeup routine which was concealer, eyebrows, highlighter and blush. I had to do extra work to hide my eyebags since i had stayed up all night.

I was done getting ready and was happy with the final look, hopefully i would leave a nice impression appearance wise.

i made my way to the kitchen, i tried not being too loud since my father was still asleep by these times.

"Gi!!" My dad said behind me, scaring me half to death.

"Dad oh my gosh! are you trying to give me a heart attack?" i said jokingly.

"Sorry sweetie, i wanted to get up early so i can see my little girl for her first day of her new school!" he exclaimed

I smiled. My dad was always the clingy loving parent. He cared deeply about me and he is the most genuine person towards me.

"Oh! let me take some pictures before you leave!" He said taking out his phone. I rolled my eyes and laughed.

"You look amazing Gi!" he said while taking pictures of me with his phone.

"Thanks dad" i smiled.

"Make sure to eat up and hydrate so you can have energy through the day. Im glad i got my pictures, i'm gonna head back to sleep now okay? Let me know how everything goes!" He said while hugging me once more and i nodded.

I knew it was going to be tough to get through the day since i got no sleep, so i made myself a nice iced coffee and put it in my bottle.

I knew if i didn't drink any coffee, i would be like a zombie.

I decided to eat some strawberries and yogurt for breakfast.

the time was now 6:57 am. The school was about 35 minutes from my house which meant i have to wake up a bit earlier than most.

I had a bus station walking distance from my house, so it was decided i would take the bus to and from school.

I could drive but the long drive to and from school would take up a lot of gas everyday, so we took the less expensive route.

I put my airpods in and made my way to leave the house.

Taking a deep breath, I made my way out.

"Wish me luck, mom.." i said quietly to myself.

I knew i was going to need her help to get through this year.
