Elizabeth left the underworld with more knowledge than she came with. Everything was so much clearer, and finally made sense. The awful things her mother had done scared Elizabeth greatly, for she thought she could become wicked like her mother.
The missing pages from her mother's diary held all the answers, but they had been burned by her mother in the castle's fireplace. They held her deepest inner thoughts, along with her sinful confessions, and the story of how it all happened. Ramona made her bed when she made the wrong choice, and now lies in it. It was too late. Her fate had been sealed.
Not being able to live with the consequences of her actions, Ramona became Lavina, keeping her, her memory, and essentially their love, alive. Though Elizabeth couldn't believe her mother had also sabotaged her innocent father. Out of rage, Ramona punished the King, for taking Lavina away from her, by taking away his memories. So that Ramona could live on to be Queen Lavina, while the real Lavina lies at the bottom of the ocean.
Only she didn't stay dead for long. Lavina's ghost terrorized the land, searching for the child that should've rightfully belonged to her. Being that Elizabeth didn't see the face of Lavina's ghost the night she came for her, she never knew her mother impersonated the real Lavina. Her ghost became known as "The Lady of the Lake". Even though it wasn't a lake that was her final resting place, it had a better ring to it than "The Lady of the Ocean". No one but Elizabeth's mother, Ramona, knew who it truly was.
When the time came, Ramona was faced with a choice on the cliff that night when Lavina's ghost came for her daughter. While viewing her mother's memories, Elizabeth noticed she wasn't the only child on the cliff that night. A boy was with her as well, but she couldn't tell who it was. She didn't remember anyone else being there. Sam also never mentioned it to her either.
During the entire voyage back to the castle, Elizabeth had the same repetitive nightmare. Every time she sleeps, she's back on the cliff. As if her mind was trying to piece together the events of that night.
When she awakens, Elizabeth finds herself torn between what is real and what is not. Feeling like she had fallen down the rabbit hole, and completely driven mad. Constantly worrying about why she couldn't remember that night, who the mysterious boy was, and whether or not she would end up like her mother or father.
Was she pure? Was she wicked? Was she cursed?
Her mind raced with these questions, as she tried to keep herself awake at night. Until one night the unexpected happened. She began to hallucinate.
After leaving the bed, where she lay next to Sam, she crept onto the deck. There were very few crew members awake, and those who were awake were as drunk as sailors. They didn't pay attention to the wandering princess.
Elizabeth found a place on the ship where no one could see her. Once she knows the coast is clear, she finally acknowledges the tiny figures floating above her shoulders. A tiny man and woman argue back and forth, making it feel like Elizabeth's head is going to explode.
"Will you please stop yelling?" she whispered loudly.
The two suddenly appeared in front of her. Their appearance was unusual. The woman is dressed in a white dress with gold trim. Her wings expand from her shoulder blades, exposing the whitest feathers Elizabeth has ever seen. The man is dressed in a red and black suit and tie, accompanied by pointed horns and a devilish grin. They look completely opposite.
They introduced themselves as her personal guardian angel and inner demon. In other words, they're incarnates of her conscience. Claiming that Elizabeth conjured them up from her subconscious mind, when she doubted herself.
They informed her that the balance between good and evil had shifted somehow, but neither of them could get along long enough to explain it to her. They argued back and forth again, while Elizabeth covered her ears.
"Quiet down, before someone hears us!" Elizabeth whispered loudly.
"That's the greatest part!" Destiny said with a smile.
"No one can hear or see us, but you!" Dimitri said with a grin.
"Can't you both please put aside whatever you're arguing about, and explain why you're here?" Elizabeth asked them.
"We weren't sure how to tell you," Destiny said as she looked at the floor.
"There is something you need to know about that night," Dimitri said. "Before Lavina dragged your mother off the cliff, your mother saved you by casting a protection spell."
"I'm okay though, right?" Elizabeth asked.
"When she did that, it stripped you of your memory of that night, as well as your growing powers," Dimitri explained.
"You forgot to mention that the spell also rids her of her imaginary friends," Destiny added. "That would be us."
"You're back now, though," Elizabeth said. "Why?"
"I'm afraid something wicked this way comes," Destiny said while avoiding eye contact.
"Death has set his hounds on the scent of your father's soul after you visited the Underworld," Dimitri informs Elizabeth.
"I'm afraid he doesn't have much time," Destiny replied. "The curse your mother used took a lot of dark magic, and it comes with a price to pay."
"This is not my father's burden to bear," Elizabeth said. "There must be a way to stop it."
"There is, however, one way," Dimitri said.
Elizabeth is now faced with a choice, one that only she can make. Wishing that this time she gets it right, otherwise there is no telling what will happen. Her fate now lies in the hands of these quarreling strangers standing before her. An angel and a demon working together for the greater good. There's nothing to worry about, right?
