Beep beep beep beep. My alarm went off telling me to wake up. I dragged myself out of bed and went on a run. As I ran, I ran off the feelings so I could face going to school that day. When I got home I took a quick shower, put on some skinny jeans, a hoodie, some converse, and threw my hair up, and got myself and my brother ready for school.
On my way to school, I picked up some Starbucks and turned the music up loud as I drove to school. As I walked to my locker, I passed Dylan who was leaning against a locker talking to Aubrey. Crushed, I took a deep breath to stop the tears, looked down at the ground, and hurried past them. Brooklyn and Lilly were waiting at my locker. As they talked happily, I went through my locker and got all the stuff I needed for that morning. Lilly gave me a concerned look.
"What's wrong?" She asked. I couldn't take it anymore. I broke down in tears and slid down to the floor. Brooklyn and Lilly sat down on either side of me to comfort me.
"Come on Alex. Tell us what happened." I looked down the hall to see Dylan wrap an arm around Audrey who had a huge smile on her face and give her a peck on the lips. This made me cry even harder but I just wiped the tears from my eyes.
"Last night Dylan told me he was gonna ask out Audrey and he did, even though I told him how much I love him. I should've known it was never gonna happen and I was an idiot to believe it could've ever happened." Lilly wrapped her arms around me and pulled me close. I laid her head on Lilly's shoulder and curled into her. Brooklyn was outraged.
"That bitch!" She screamed. "I'm gonna go give him a piece of my mind." She stood up and Lilly tried to stop her but failed. Brooklyn stomped over to Dylan and decked him in the face, hard. He took a step backwards touching his cheek. Suddenly everyone was watching them.
"What was that for!?" He yelled at Brooklyn looking at her in disbelief.
"You're a bitch! Alex poured out her heart to you and told you she loved you and you ask out another fucking girl a day later!"
"Look, Brooklyn, I can explain." He said, terror in his voice.
"I'm not the one you need to explain to." Brooklyn pointed back at me who was still curled up in a ball in Lilly's arms. Dylan and everyone else looked at me and I could feel the huge wall I had built around myself standing thick and tall. At that moment the bell rang and the crowd dispersed to their classes. Lilly pulled me to her feet and they walked to class leaving Dylan standing in the hall.
At the end of the day, I sat with Lilly and Brooklyn in the courtyard doing homework. I was focused on doing my math homework when I saw Brooklyn making a threatening look behind me and I immediately knew who was there. I turned around to see Dylan standing behind me with a really apologetic look on his slightly bruised face. I glanced back at Brooklyn and Lilly who gave me an approving glance before getting up and walking to him. We walked to another table and sat down across from each other.
"Alex I am so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I thought you were okay with it and I never would've done it If I knew how much it would hurt you. I was a jerk. Will you please forgive me?"
"Yeah. I mean it's your life and you get to date whoever you want. I don't give a fuck. I don't want to get in the way of your happiness. If you're happy with her, date her. Your happiness is what's important."
"Thanks. But I want you to be happy too."
"I'm happy if you're happy."
"So is it okay if I keep dating Audrey?"
"If you're happy, absolutely."
"Are you sure?" He asked. I looked down at the table and nodded.
"Ah man, thanks!" He said with that goofy grin on his face. We stood up and he wrapped me in a hug but I didn't return it. I walked back to Brooklyn and Lilly holding my tears in and sat down and got back to work, feeling their eyes on me.
"What?" I said and looked up at them.
"You're still upset." Brooklyn said to me.
"Yeah, but he doesn't know that. He's happy and that's what matters." Brooklyn gave me a disapproving look. Then Lilly started talking.
"Oh my god Alex. This is ridiculous." She said.
"What!?" I asked throwing my hands up in the air. Brooklyn huffed.
"He's your best friend and you pour your heart out to him. But that douche-bag is so oblivious that he keeps dating that whore! You should not put up with this shit!" She yelled. People turned to look at her and she glared at them yelling for them to get lost before looking back at me.
"Well, I want him to be happy. That's all that matters." I shrugged.
"Alex! You need to be happy too and if that bitch doesn't see that, he doesn't deserve you." I started putting all my stuff in my backpack and I could feel the tears start coming out. Lilly and Brooklyn pulled me to the car and drove me to Ben & Jerry's. They picked up some ice cream and drove to Brooklyn's house where we sat eating ice cream and they let me fall apart. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have the amazing friends I did.
