I stood in front of the mirror with my heart beating really quickly. Brooklyn and Lilly stood by me. They were much better with fashion then I was so I had let them get me ready for my date with Dylan. I had on skinny jeans, flats, a tank top, and a cardigan. I had on some light makeup, a little more than usual though. And my hair was curled with a little bit pulled out of my face.

"Oh my god. You look so good. And those jeans make you look so skinny!" Lilly commented holding her hand over her mouth.

"She's right. You look fucking amazing!" Brooklyn gushed.

"Yeah, you look really good." Lilly agreed.

"I can't breathe." I said turning around and holding my chest. Brooklyn handed me some water which I gratefully took and chugged.

"Feel better?" Lilly asked with a laugh.

"Yeah, I just can't believe this. I've known him for years. He's my best friend. I don't know why I'm so nervous." Brooklyn and Lilly sat me down between them on my bed. They each held one of my hands.

"Alex, the reason you're so nervous is because it's different now. You're seeing each other in a different way. He's now your boyfriend. It's totally different and it's okay to be nervous. In fact, it's totally normal."

"So what do I do?" I asked looking at her.

'

"Just don't think about it. Treat it like it's just you two hanging out like normal." Lilly suggested.

"Exactly. Just you two, hanging out like the best friends you still are." Brooklyn added.

"Okay, I'm ready." I said. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I stood up and Brooklyn and Lilly walked me downstairs to the front door. They all gave me a hug, Brooklyn fixed my outfit and hair, and then handed me my purse. Then Lilly opened the door to reveal Dylan. He had on some jeans, a black polo, and some converse.

"Hey." I breathed.

"Hey." He replied. "You ready to go?"

"Yeah." I turned around. "Bye guys." I said trying to get out the door.

"Not so fast." Brooklyn said putting his hand on the door frame to stop me from leaving. Well crap, this wasn't going to be good.

"What are you guys doing tonight?" She asked.

"I was gonna take Alex out to dinner."

"Where?"

"Her favorite place."

"What-"

"Okay, that's enough." I interrupted. "Let's go." Dylan took my hand and we walked out to the car. I could feel all their eyes on my back but ignored them. Dylan opened the passenger door of his truck for me before going around and getting in himself.

"You look absolutely beautiful tonight." Dylan complimented pulling out of my driveway.

"Thanks," I blushed. "You don't look too bad yourself." He turned to look at me and smiled. As he drove to my favorite restaurant, Noodles 'n' Company, we talked and laughed just like old times. And I realized, I wasn't nervous anymore. I was with my best friend and that was enough to calm my nerves.

After we finished dinner, we took a walk around the nearby lake. It was dark outside so the only light was from the stars and the occasional streetlight. We went and sat on a boardwalk over the lake. We pulled up our jeans and dipped our feet in the water. I leaned my head on his shoulder and we interlocked our fingers.

"Dylan, can I ask you a question?" I asked staring at the water in front of us.

"Of course, anything." He said.

"Why me? I mean, I'm nothing special. You deserve so much better."

"Why you?"

"Yeah. Why me?"

"Because there's no one better than you. You're beautiful, smart, funny, sweet, understanding, and perfectly imperfect. You can act like a guy but you can act like a girl too and I love both sides. You're quiet and conserved, not a slutty party girl. You're the most special person in my life and I could NOT have asked for anyone better in my life."

"Really?" He turned to look at me.

"Of course. You're the most gorgeous girl I've ever seen. And I'm so, so lucky to have you. I love you."

"Thank you. I love you too." I said, and we kissed.
