Chapter 3.0 - Path

It's been a week since the teacher announcement about the upcoming competition. Sice then I've been in a strict training routine, But because my family doesn't allow me to use our training grounds I have to stay up overtime in our school grounds to have some private time in our school's training area. Because I've been training til dark, I'm always the last one to leave the academy.

Everytime I'm about to leave the school i notice a light open in the part b of our training ground. I don't go there often because it's equipments are more focused on physical training rather than magical.

Yesterday I decided to stay up much later than I normally do, I noticed that he/she is still training. So i decided to see who it was. To my surprise it was Kayn, my classmate. He was practicing his swordsmanship. His body was refined and has completely adapt to his swordsmanship. Every move he made was like a dancer dancing his every move flowed smoothly. Still it's just swordsmanship, being a good swordsman doesn't really have much of an advantage than using actual magic. But some swordsmen after reaching a high level of mastery in both magic and in the art of the sword, is able to mix their magic into their sword technique, significantly increasing its power. But being able to reach that level of greatness requires decades worth of training so I don't think I should worry about him that much.

There is one thing that stands out about kayn: it's that he always carries a sword with him. Someone carrying a sword isn't an unusual sight but there's something special about his sword. His sword is almost if not 2 times longer than a normal sword; his sword is almost the same height as him, To add to that his sword is covered in talismans. Talismans are believed to ward of curses and evil spirit, so seeing a sword like that was definitely an unusual sight. He wasnt using the said sword while his training, he just uses a staff and holds it like a sword to mimic its unusual length.

But it was getting late so i decided to leave for the night.

Well because of yesterday i woke up late. I still managed to get to school, but I missed the 1st class. I was barely able to fix my stuff, so i went to school with just a pen and a book, no bags. And To my surprise kayn was already there. I'm surprised we wasn't tired from physically training that late.

Kayn probably uses the dorm rooms the academy gives to students, that's probably the reason he always manages to go to class and stay up late in the training grounds. I don't like staying in the academy's dorms cause i don't want to move all my stuff from our house which is literally on a mountain. But i think I'll stay in the dorms for tonight since I'm also gonna need a bit of physical training for the upcoming competition.

After I took the walk of shame from the door to my chair. Kagemi asked me why i was this late for class. I told her about everything, and she seems equally as curious about kayn. She said that our next period is physical training and duels so we'll have a chance to see his true ability.

Because of the upcoming competition, Prof.Evil was the one that took our physical training. He grouped us into groups of two and we're about to fight with the person that was grouped with us. I was grouped with Kagemi, I was really hoping to be grouped with kayn but this will do. Also i don't think my level of physical prowess could beat him so this is my best bet. Sloane was partnered with Yonah, and Kayn was partnered against Alfraen. I really don't know that much about Neg because when it was his turn on the magic assessment I was more focused on the unconscious Kagemi besides me. Well I'm looking forward to this since this is gonna be my first fight experience in this school.

We draw lots and i got no.2 that means that we're gonna be the 2nd one to fight. The 1st duel was Ilaria and Maun Kai. And it's about to start. Ilaria's choice of weapon was a 3 section staff; A weapon tht requires huge skill to use but somehow as she holds it, it feels natural. And it's my first time actually seeing Ilaria look this serious, not counting the moment in the nomination. Maun's choice of weapon was a 2 handed sword. With Maun's big stature it feels like i was looking at a statue. His stature reigning over ilaria's small stand. But Ilaria was just looking at him dead in the eye like a predator looking at its prey.
