My letterbox chapped and I made my way downstairs, I passed by the bathroom quickly switching off the light.
A few letters were lying on the floor I gathered them into a pile and swung the door open. The postman stood with a small package in his arms that would have been too large to fit threw the letterbox.
"Do ya mind signing for it mate?" He asked holding out a pen
"No, not at all" I replied taking the pen in my left hand and signing the piece of paper that was on the clipboard.
He passed me the package and left. I kicked the door closed with my heel and returned upstairs.
I went into the lounge and placed the package down carefully on the table unsure if what I had ordered was fragile.
I scanned all the letters.
"Bill, bill, bill, bill" I said aloud
"What's this?" I questioned examining the envelope. It differed from the others, golden swirls where decorating it and my name was hand written. As I looked at it more carefully, I knew I recognised the hand writing. It belonged to Phil.
My eyes squinted. why was Phil writing to me? We don't write to each other, we barely even text, we only get together to film videos for our gaming channel which isn't very frequent.
Ever since Phil had decided to move out we only posted a new gaming video around once every two months. The thing that confused me the most was he didn't want to tell our subscribers about us not living together any longer, we did want to keep them informed about what was happening in our lives but like Phil had said "they'll just think we've fallen out." I agreed with him and ever since then we just pretended to live with each other, I got to keep the apartment that we first got when moving to London and Phil bought a new place around twenty minutes away.
The only thing we couldn't keep hidden from our fans or phans was the fact that Cat moved to London or the fact her and Phil had been dating for the past two and a half years.
Anyway I nervously began to open the letter, I tore at the envelope to reveal a piece of card, it was decorated in black and white.
YOU ARE INVITED TO THE WEDDING OF CAT AND PHIL
I dropped the rest of the letters in shock, tears streaming down my face, I lost my balance and hung onto one of the chairs surrounding the table for support.
Cat and Phil getting married? I couldn't believe it , I re examined the invite but even though the tears were messing with my eye sight it was pretty clear that's what it read.
"Wait, I'm not the best man" sudden realisation came upon me. It was true that after Phil had moved out we talked less, I was sure everyone could tell, especially the fans. We still got invited to events as 'Dan and Phil' but Phil had decided on quitting the radio show, I couldn't do it on my own and even though I practically begged him to come back he didn't so I quit as well. I had noticed that me and Phil were pretty much a package deal, you really don't get one without the other.
The biggest tell was our best collab series 'Phil is not on fire', we were so distant that filming them was awkward, we both drew on our own cat whiskers and the whole video had just turned into a plain and boring Q and A. That was what we had deliberately avoided at the beginning, we didn't want to be like other youtubers, we weren't like other youtubers but now well we were just the same as anyone else.
I had made my way over to my couch, I sat on the edge of the sofa, my eyes never leaving the invite. It didn't want to go, I didn't want to watch the man I love marry a woman I had grown to hate.
