MC had spent the last ten minutes trying to convince Lucifer to put his work down, insisting they had a surprise for him. When they got tired of him refusing, they laid across the desk, setting their head in the center of his paper.

His eyebrows raised at their antics, annoyance dusted in his eyes. Lucifer sighed, rubbing his temple. "Fine, I suppose I could use a break."

A grin split MC's face. They rolled off of the desk, snatching his hand and yanking him out of the chair. MC hand was soft around his own as they excitedly guiding Lucifer through the halls of the Castle, rushing for the courtyard. They turned to face him, taking both of his hands as they walk backwards down the courtyard path. He couldn't stop the smirk making its way to his face.

Moments later, they spun back around, releasing his hand and plopping down on a white linen bed sheet. Lucifer buffered for a moment, taking in the scene they'd set. A fresh bottle of cherry cider leaned against a woven basket, two stemless wine glasses sitting on either side. Various fruits and berries sat in ceramic bowls, accompanied by a golden treat tower that was obviously stolen from the castle's kitchen, stacked with finger sandwiches and croissants. A childish grin rested on their face as they patted the ground next to them, beckoning him to sit.

He chuckled, settling down on the blanket. "You did all this?"

"Yup!" They smiled proudly. "Barbatos and Simeon helped me, though." MC said, a sheepish smile forming.

He laughed more at that. Lucifer's ruby eyes watched them lovingly as they reached for the glasses and cider. They brought a bottle opener out of the basket. It was very clearly Barbatos's. It shimmered gold and was carved into a delicate swan. MC locked the swan's beak onto the top of the cider bottle, squeezing their eyes shut as they tried to crank the lid off of the bottle. They released a breath when it opened, a small cheer passed their lips.

Lucifer chuckled again. They met his gaze, enthusiasm twinkling in their eyes. They filled a glass halfway and passed it to him. He took it gratefully, gently swirling the liquid.

They sat there, picking at the fruits and talking about anything that came to mind. The atmosphere of the courtyard was unbelievably soothing. The sparkle of the light off of the water behind MC often caught Lucifer's eyes. Anytime the conversation quieted, he found himself staring out over the gentle waves, a kind of solace he'd forgotten about settling over him.

"I can't remember the last time I did this." He sighed, relaxing back and feeling the grass give way under his back. A sweet smile peeled his lips apart. It must have been before his fall.

Canaries sang softly in the tree branches, accompanied by the gurgling of the water. The gentle ebb and flow of the pond soothing him. The smell of sweet syrup filled his nose, drifting lightly amongst that of the flowers.

Lucifer perked up in recognition. "Is that...?" He started, sitting back up.

MC cast him a gentle smile, his own features mirroring it. They opened the woven basket to reveal a stunning array of blue jelly moon cakes, his favorite Celestial Realm dessert.

"How did you..?" He tried to ask, surprise painted in his face.

"Simeon told me. He taught me to make them." They smiled softly, passing the ceramic bowl to him. He took the bowl, eyes flicking between the sweets and the human across from him. They smiled wider, gesturing for him to try one.

Lucifer gently set down the bowl, hesitantly sinking his teeth into one of the cakes. His eyes widened. They were perfect. He looked down at the cake in his hand and back up at MC. It was exactly like he remembered. Bittersweet feelings settled over his heart. Memories of sitting in the gardens with his brothers flooded his mind. Even the memory of their former selves was too bright in his mind, his head throbbing from their glowing garments and armor.

"They're amazing..." He breathed, shock still heavy in his voice.

"I'm glad," MC smiled softly. "You've been working so hard these past few weeks, I wanted to do something nice for you. When I mentioned the picnic, Simeon told me about those."

Lucifer slowly set down the moon cake on a napkin, moving closer to MC. "Thank you so much, MC." He murmured, pulling them into his form.

MC laughed softly and melted into the hug, relishing the rare gesture. "It was nothing, really. I'm glad you liked it."

"No," He said, pulling away from the hug and locking his eyes with theirs. "Thank you. You don't understand how much this means to me."

MC's eyebrows rose a slightly, realization making a compassionate smile twist their lips. They gently held his hand, eyes softening.

Closing the little distance, Lucifer leaned into them. His ruby eyes were shadowed behind his eyelashes. Then he kissed them, his way of thanking them. Their smile held steady through the kiss. After several blissful moments, he pulled away, setting his forehead against theirs, eyes still closed. "Thank you, MC."
