As I enter the school doors I can hear Chris walking behind me giggling like a child. "Good morning, Chris." "Wait, How did you know it was me?" Let's see... "Your breathing, you walk loud, and you were laughing as you were trailing me." Chris chuckles "You got me!" He says as he slings his arm over my shoulders. As I am trying to shake him off, Mrs. Meyer the principal, calls Chris over to her. He thankfully removes his arm and walks over to her office.  He turns around and shrugs signaling he doesn't know what's happening. Leaving me to awkwardly walk to the lockers alone since Zola decided that she wanted to be sick today.

                                                                   RINNGGG!

Why does the bell have to ring at the worst time? I haven't even gotten to my damn locker to open yet! And the stupid code isn't working ether. Stupid code! Finally getting the door open, I run to ELA books in hand, and bonk into someone that looks pretty new. A boy, brown hair with greenish-brown eyes and a tan, lanky form. He's good looking but is probably a jerk like all the boys here. "Sorry!" I yell not even looking back to see if he's okay. Shit! I really am late. "Wait you dropped your book! Wait!" I quickly run back, smile, because he really is good looking, turn and run into class not bothering to even thank him. I wonder what his name was anyway.

"Nice of you to join us Lucy." Oh boy. "Sorry Mrs. Mehaffey. My locker code wasn't working." "Well just sit down and pay attention." As I walk to my seat at the back of the classroom, Amber and her little group of popular friends starts giggling. Staring them down I sit at my desk and take out my English textbook and try to ignore them, which is not really working. Way to start the day of great. "Class class" Mrs. Mehaffey says "Yes yes" we respond, "We have a new student today. His name is Jake, so please be nice and try to help him get around." She says as she gestures to the boy that I ran into earlier. He's pretty tall and has a good sense of fashion wearing a plain green shirt and blue jeans. He must have caught me staring and his eyes meet mine. I look away feeling my face go red. "You can go sit next to Lucy, Jake, and I'm sure you'll do fine here." He smiles and walks down the aisle to set directly across from me. I can feel him looking at me but I try not to meet his gaze. Once the bell rings signaling that class is over, I pack up my stuff and rush out the door to Math, my next class of day.

                                                                    4 Hours Later

The day was pretty normal and luckily I only share ELA and Science with Jake.  After school I have to go sell the pumpkins which always takes so long to do but at least I get some of the profits.  The pumpkins are the best in the town so we usually sell out near Halloween. The profits really reflect our stand which has a banner strung between the poles saying 'Smith Family Farms'. As I am setting up I see a familiar form but I can't really place it. Weird. Anyways,  I can see people already start to notice the stand and I prepare to be swarmed by people wanting pumpkins. We sell them $10 a pumpkin which I think is a pretty good price.

" It's Lucy, right?" Startled out of my daze I turn my head to see Jake standing at the front of the line holding a pumpkin with a little girl right next to him holding a white one "Yes it is" I smile and looking at the little girl I say "That's a good choice. Very pretty. Are you going to make it a Jack o'lantern?" She nods shyly. I look back up at Jake "That will be 20 dollars please" As he takes out his wallet he says "That's my little sis by the way, Layla. She loves pumpkins. In fact I didn't know you worked at the farm." "My parents own it so the make me  help out time to time" He nods handing me the money. "Well, we better get going nice seeing you" "You too" He turns away and to my surprise I can hear Layla whisper to him before they leave " That's the girl you were talking about huh? She's very pretty" I smile when I see the tip of his ears go bright red and I hear him hush the girl before walking away to other stands lined on the at the edge of the trail. I smile for that made my day, before turning to the next customer in line who holds not one, not two, but five pumpkins balanced precariously in their arms. I smile wider, coming to realize that someone may finally like me.
