James was awake when Harry left the bedroom while pulling on one of Remus' sweaters still in his closet from the colder days back in April. His dad was sitting in a chair drinking his morning tea while looking over the Daily Prophet.
"Anything interesting?" Harry asked walking to the couch to make his own tea after having learned to expect the kettle and everything to be at the coffee table if someone was already awake.
"Nothing as interesting as how last night went." James said, folding the prophet and setting it aside to give his full attention to Harry with a little self satisfied smirk.
"It was lame and boring and I had a horrible time because my wolf was miserable and angry and it felt like I was cheating. Satisfied?" Harry made his tea just the way he liked it then looked towards James.
"No, not anymore." James pouted, "Are you okay? You know Remus wasn't like....rejecting you or anything right?"
"I know that." Harry sighed as he sat on the couch staring down at his steaming mug, "But that doesn't mean I can't be a little hurt or angry about it."
"True." James nodded, "So the hang out with your ex wasn't fun at all?"
Harry shrugged, "We were friends before we dated and we stayed in touch after we broke up so yeah sure it was fun to see him again and spend time with him. I don't have many friends after all, I don't want many friends. But at the end of the day...it's different for mates...no matter what my intention was or wasn't my wolf and the mate bond still knew I was...entertaining someone who wasn't my mates who had interest and it wasn't happy. It's hard to describe."
"Frankie and Remus had a talk after Sirius left, they were alone for a while and when they came back Remus seemed...withdrawn." James said
"Frankie doesn't like that I'm mated to a Packless."
"Packless?" James asked
"Um...a term used by other werewolves. It's a werewolf who doesn't have a werewolf pack. It's sometimes used as an insult, but it's not supposed to be. Not really."
"We're his pack."
"And you're a great one, but you're not werewolves. Remus was raised to hate himself no matter how much he wants to deny that, he wasn't raised by other Werewolves. He didn't learn the things he needed to. I just...there's just some things you can't learn by reading books no matter how many you buy. Even Papa, no matter how much he knows about werewolves and lycans, he doesn't understand everything. He tries and the things he doesn't understand he trusts Frankie to understand and help me the best way he can, but again he's an Alpha so he doesn't completely understand the Omega side of things either."
"You don't have an Omega you can go to?" James asked, moving so he could sit beside Harry on the couch.
"I do, but they're female. Male omegas are pretty rare. There's not a lot of us out there and the few that are, aren't always Werewolves, some can be Veela or Vampires. To find a male Omega Lycan is against a lot of odds. Don't get me wrong I'm not the only one in existence I'm sure, but Lycans in general are heavily protected amongst Werewolf packs, Omegas even more so, and male omegas especially. No one outside of the Pack knows there's a male omega Lycan in Britain Well Matteo knows of course, but Papa assured me he made him take an unbreakable vow when they ended things."
"I didn't realize." James said softly.
"No, I know. You're busy with papers and classes and full moons and being a dad. Papa says you two talk about it sometimes. I know you're trying, you just have a busy schedule right now." Harry reassured him, he was still looking down at his mug, the tea having cooled by now.
