-UNREQUITED LOVE-
CHAPTER FIVE
RILEY'S POV
the next few weeks were hard. really hard but i was managing OK.
sometimes i would wonder if it would be easier for me not to see Ryan at all, but then i'd immediately dismiss that idea. there was no way i could go for 3 days without seeing him let alone forever.
everyday i woke up though, i would wish he would knock on my door, kiss me and tell me he loved me too.
however, the more time i spent with him, i found it slightly easier to accept the fact he didn't want me. but not much.
that didnt stop me from always feeling vulnerable around him knowing he knew how i felt.
i started spending a lot of time with Lucas, just because he could always take my mind of Ryan. plus, he was fun to be around, always joking and grinning and pulling pranks.
i also threw myself into my studies. i actually managed to get my grade from a 2.2 to a 2.1, which i was pretty proud of. too bad i wanted to become a flight attendant after id finished uni, much to my mothers dismay. she wanted me to become a doctor or a lawyer or a dentist. she thought air hostessing was a pretty degrading job. i didn't care. it seemed fit for me and i didn't mind earning just £40,000 per annum. i wasn't a really materialistic person anyway.
***
i had a 3 month break off uni and no where to go. not that i minded. it was just my second year at uni so i was really familiar with the whole beach setting. back home in London it was rarely ever this warm. Ryan's and my parents wanted us to come back home and spend the break with them but we weren't up for it.
when i woke up on saturday, i decided to go surfing and chill with ry at the beach where he was working as a life guard part time.
i had changed my shifts at the shake bar to part time also. i didn't need the money since my parents paid for my rent, they refused to let me pay as i was their baby girl and my other 3 siblings were all boys, older than me and married, engaged or divorced. so, all i had to pay for were my expenditures.
i checked the time, it was 2pm and hopped out of bed. i showered and changed into a royal blue bikini, and oversized white shirt and washed out dark blue denim short shorts. i left the shirt unbuttoned and blow dried my hair, scrunching it in my hands so the out come would be tidily messy and kind of wavy. i then grabbed my RayBan's and jumped into my navy blue range rover, stopping at Starbucks to grab 2 frappucinos and a muffin which i ate on the way.
"hey, baby," Ryan greeted me as i handed him a frappi.
"hey baby right backatcha. " i replied, removing my shirt and getting comfy on the blanket on the sand. first i was gonna tan before surfing. i pulled my RayBan's up onto my head and closed my eyes basking in the lovely sunshine.
10 minutes later i was interuppted by a person looming over me, blocking the sun.
"well hello, good lookin'." the person greeted me.
not bothering to open my eyes i nonchalantly replied "hey."
"im callum. and you are.."
"not interested. do you mind? I'm tryna sun bathe.." i hinted.
"ahh, playing hard to get hmm? me likey."
more bored than exasperated, i sighed and turned to ryan for help. "Ryyyyyy," i whined, "tell this idiot to get lost already!"
Ryan chuckled, "she ain't interested mate. sorry."
"hey who said i was looking for anything besides friendship?" he asked innocently.
"then make friends with him!" i said, pointing in the direction of Ryan, still not bothering to open my eyes.
"but i wanna make friends with you."
"well i don't wanna be friends so there!" i finally opened my eyes and stuck my tongue out. childish i know.
"hey! thats bullying!" he claimed. i checked him out and, mentally, my jaw dropped.
dammmn he was fiiiine.
he looked mixed race and had dark brown, short curly hair. he was tall, about 6 foot, same as ryan, and had a really fit body. he wasn't wearing a shirt so his sexy six pack was visible for all to see.
if i wasn't head over heels for Ryan then i would definitely be crushing on this dude cause dang he was fiiine.
but of course not as fine as my Ry.
well, maybe they were equals in their good looks but Ryan and i had 11 years of friendship which made him even more beautifuler in my eyes. also, where Ryan was drop dead gorgeous Callum was adorable.
"ahh, she finally opens her eyes!" he laughed. "hey good lookin',"
"i thought you wanted to be 'just friends'," i commented, smiling.
"i do, but you haven't told me your name so i guess ill have to just stick to that." he shot back.
"hmm, OK then. im riley."
"what a beautiful name, just like your eyes." he flirted referring to my chocolate brown ones.
"yes, many have told me that," i chuckled, sitting up and moving my hair from my back to over my left shoulder.

RYAN'S POV
i watched as Riley and Callum flirted with each other for a few minutes before deciding to go surf.
"wanna come with, Ry?" she asked getting up.
"nah, i cant, baby. working remember," i smiled.
"oh yeah, OK. wanna get dinner together later then?"
"sure." i replied.
i watched them walking to the surf shack to get surf boards and swim suits. they were happily chatting away.
i was glad for her, honestly. but i also wondered why i felt this annoyance and animosity towards the guy. as if he wasn't good enough for her or something. she deserved only the best and to me, he wasn't that.
oh well, knowing riley, shed probably go out with him for a couple of weeks and then dump his ass. she didnt keep a boyfriend for long.
her last relationship had only lasted a week and a half. she broke up with him claiming she felt she was ''holding him back from excelling in his studies''.
