"Damn Dilean," Teagan whistled.
"You guys just don't understand." Dilean huffed.
"It's not a matter of understanding, Dilean. Regardless of the reasons behind it, or whatever it is you may have done or not done. She is someone else's wife. That's the one thing that does not change."
"When did you and Ezra talk again after that day?" Zahara asked.
"I went to his apartment a few days later so we could talk about it again..."
'"Welcome," he opened the door wide for me to enter. He was in a grey hoodie, one that was identical to mine. We bought them together on my birthday. He called the whole twining thing ridiculous, but he bought it still and he wore it often. And I realised that he wore it on days he was in a bad mood.
"Your new place looks really nice," I said, looking around. "Did you really not like living in the mansion?"
"Mmh." He nodded.
"Okay, this is really nice. It's cosy. I think I should officially move out too. Share the number of your interior designer hey."
"Mmh." He nodded again.
"Are you ready to talk calmly now?" I asked him.
"I always talk calmly Dilean," he responded, rolling his eyes. "Just say what you want to say." He sighed.
"Ezra, you have always, always done right by dad, by your mother. Even though our siblings hate you they can all admit that you do no wrong."
"Get to the point Dilean." He said in a bit of a grumble. Looking at the way he clenched and unclenched his fists he was on edge. Something was bothering him.
"What is it?" I asked, trying to read his eyes.
"You are having an affair with Renata. What do you mean by 'what is it'?"
"It looks like something else is bothering you Ezra."
"The only thing that is bothering me is how you are running away from the initial conversation. Get to your point."
"Okay then." I was not fully convinced, but I left it alone. "You don't know what it's like to have to constantly prove yourself to dad. You were born the heir. The rest of us have to fight or struggle. You have everything, including dad's love. I wanted to be loved by someone without having to prove myself. And that someone was Renata. She is the one good thing that's happened to me in forever, and she feels the same way about me."
He scrutinised me for a moment, probably going over what I had said in his head.
"You decide," he said after a minute. "Decide what you want to do. Tell Eli what you're up to or just stop. Do what you want.""Ezra..."
"I'm done Dilean. Do what you want. You can go."
"I thought you of all people would at least try to understand me Ezra."
"Well I can't," he snapped. "I can't understand anyone. All the lies and deceit, I don't understand any of it. Now you can leave."
I got up and left his place without another word. So many thoughts were going through my mind and in all that confusion all I could do was call Renata. We met up at her mother's house as usual and got to talking.
"What did Ezra say?" She asked me.
"He said to do what I wanted. That it was up to me."
