The air got warmer with every kilometre we put behind us. The trees and bushes got greener until they even withered underneath the sun. The further we got to the coast, the less grass the ground had, it only became rockier. The mountains ahead of us were almost bare, with single trees standing here and there.
A small home made out of yellow stone was standing near the water. Beside it was a smaller house, almost a shed by its size. In front of it stood a bearded man who just watched us as we got off our horses. He raised his brows expecting us to pay him perhaps.
Geralt wore a dark cloak, laying around his broad shoulders and covering the white mane on top of his head. His hand reached out from his pocket and placed a heavy leather bag filled with coin into the man's hand. "For your discretion." The man thanked him and walked then past us, needing to say no more.
Geralt walked towards the wooden door of the bigger house, opening it. With a quick look inside, he made sure it was safe. He held the door open for Ciri and me to step inside. I looked over my shoulder and saw Yennefer walk straight into the smaller house. Her purpose of why she was travelling with us was solely to train Ciri in growing her magic abilities.
After a moment or two, Geralt stepped inside the house as well. Ciri was inspecting the little kitchen in the meanwhile and trying to figure out where the two other doors led. "I mean the view is nice." Ciri said with a raised brow and a crooked smile on her lips in an attempt to brighten the situation up. I opened the curtains which threw their dust off as soon as I touched them. The light made it even more visible while doing so.
With a creak, Ciri opened one of the doors, revealing a tiny room with a bed, a nightstand and a small dresser inside of it. Ciri stepped in and placed down a bag of her belongings. "I guess that's my room then." she said with a small smile and sat down on the bed, bouncing a bit to test how comfortable it was. Geralt grunted confirmgly. I pat his shoulder. "It could be worse. We're in a nice cosy house at the coast. See it as some sort of honeymoon, Geralt." I stated and placed a gentle kiss on his cheekbone.
"You're right." He mumbled and placed a finger underneath my chin to pull me further towards him. He kissed me. "You two are awful." Ciri protested in her room and turned her gaze away from us but a chuckle she couldn't hide.
Ciri's first lesson began in the evening. Yennefer knocked on our door and took Ciri towards the little cliff where big and small rocks were laying around. As soon as the door closed again, we were alone. "You think she'll be alright?" Geralt asked and stepped further towards me, placing a hand around my waist. I nodded. "I do. I don't think Yennefer means any harm anymore. I'm not saying I trust her but I do trust Ciri." I said and took his free hand into my own, intertwining our fingers.
My other hand wandered higher until it reached Geralt's neck. I pulled him down to my height to kiss him. Our intertwined hands separated - his found its place between my shoulder blades and mine on his chest. He returned the kiss, bringing more fire into it, making the blood rush into my face and making it burn. He pressed my body closer to his own, leaving no room between us. Not even a piece of paper would have fit.
The lack of oxygen made us break the kiss. He pressed his forehead against mine. I could still feel his hot breath on my skin. "As much as I'd love to continue this, I think we need to scout the area. Get some fish perhaps, too." he mumbled while letting his hand play with my hair. I nodded with a sigh. "You're right."
As we opened the door, I let my eyes roam to see where Yennefer and Ciri were. They were still at the cliff. Geralt placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me from the house towards the path that led down to the beach. He grabbed a few of the fishnets which were laying on top of a barrel and we walked towards the beach.
It was just a small sandy shore where the waves had found their end. The evening air wasn't as warm as it was during the afternoon but still warm enough.
We threw the fishnets into the salty water, holding their ropes and waiting for a bit until we would maybe catch something. "Have you ever been here before?" I asked him while I wiggled a little with the rope to attract some fish perhaps. Geralt shook his head. "No, but I figured this would be the perfect place. It's in the middle of nowhere." he explained.
After a few more minutes, we pulled out the nets to see a few fish in the nets. And squids too. We repeated this process a few more times until we had what we thought of as enough. As I bend down to tie the fishnet up, I seemed to have lost my balance, maybe because of the waves around our feet and I fell into the shallow water. I heard Geralt chuckle beside me. "How's the water?" he asked with a teasing grin. I narrowed my eyes. "Find out for yourself." I said and grabbed his hand to pull him into the water as well.
Now, it was me laughing as his hair was clinging to the sides of his face. The salty water ran down his face but I was no better. My clothes were soaked as well and my hair must look hilarious too. I stood up and offered Geralt a hand, to do so as well. He took it but instead pulled me back into the water, onto his lap. I yelped in surprise but laughed at the same time. "I love when you're able to relax for a moment." I said with a smile and took his face in my hands to place a sloppy kiss on his lips.
Yennefer and Ciri were still training, when we came back home. By what it seemed, Ciri was attempting to lift a rock with her chaos.
The noise of a knife being pulled out made me turn. Geralt pulled out a knife from a letter attached to our door. He handed me his fishnet. I put both of them on a hook on the little porch. He frowned and walked over to me to show me the letter as well.
"Dear friends,
Even in your silence, I know you're wondering how Ciri's training is progressing. She has great potential but little talent. That will change over time. Someday she'll be able to conjure something tastier than the squid you're likely bringing right now.
- Your friend, Yennefer."
