You had been craving it, the taste of the savory butter that coated the little popped bits of corn you threw into your mouth. One by one you crunched down on the snack and swatted Josh's hand away from the bowl as he reached around you in an attempt to grab some for himself.
"One mouthful of popcorn per kiss. Those are the rules." You tease, holding the bowl just out of his arms reach.
"Well maybe if you turn your head I can smooch ya!" He laughed, so you did as instructed. Just as promised he gave you a delicate kiss, followed with his mouth opened wide and a soft ahhhh.
You grabbed a fist full of popcorn and reached behind your shoulder to stuff it between his teeth. "Can we focus on the movie now? I didn't hear a word they just said." You grunted, adjusting yourself back into comfort on Josh's lap.
You loved it there, the warmth it brought alongside the contentment it provided. You leaned back so your back was directly against his torso, your head resting just upon his shoulder.
"You know. I don't think I'll ever understand why he's a bunny." You whisper, earning a chuckle from Josh that vibrated your back.
"Most of this movie is an enigma." He retaliated, and though he meant to say more the jiggle of the front door knob caught you both off guard. Simultaneously, the two of you looked over at the noise and watched as the handle slowly turned, opening slowly to reveal Jake. He was blissfully unaware of the two of you as he tossed his keys into the bowl, kicking off his shoes and slipping his coat from his shoulders.
You could see the blush still lingering on his skin as he smiled to himself, wandering into the kitchen as he stared down at his phone. You turned just enough to share a look with Josh, mischievous smirks adorning both of your faces as you watched Jake pull open the refrigerator door. "So, how was your date with this mystery woman you've been hiding from us?"
Using the fridge door as a shield, he slowed his movements as if that would make him disappear. "What date?" He grabbed at a soda can and cracked it open. "I don't know what you're talking about."
When he finally popped his head out of hiding, his face was as red as a ripened cherry. Almost as red as a fresh sunburn after a day of swimming. "Awe!! Joshy look. He's blushing! Look at how flustered he is!"
Jake shot you a look as Josh chuckled, shifting slightly to get a better look at his twin. "She must be something really special then, the only other time I've seen him get that flustered is because of you, angel."
You smiled at the comment as you slid out of Josh's lap, opting instead to curl up against his side and lift the blanket, patting the empty spot beside you on the couch. "Why don't you come finish this movie with us and tell us all about this girl."
Jake's sharp glare quickly melted away, and he shuffled out of the kitchen, making his way over and sinking into the spot next to you. You leaned over, nudging your shoulder against his as he made himself comfortable. "So, what's she like? Gotta make sure she's a good fit for my best friend."

A fresh start wasn't always for everyone. Most people enjoyed the comfort of their own living space enough to stay there forever. You thought you were one of those people, someone who would sit in the same living room for eternity looking out the same window. That was your truth, until a new shiny key was presented before you from Josh's hand. "Would you like to do the honors?"
You took it between your fingers and lined it up with the knob. As you unlocked the door you couldn't help but to reflect on what got you to this point in your life. How such a turn of events in a youth room had led you down the path to holding a key to your shared apartment with Joshua. A key you wouldn't trade for the world.
