Tyler and I met up on the first day of school at our normal spot. We always met by the gates to the park a few blocks from my house.

Tylers father yelled from across the passenger seat "Hurry up, I'm running late today Sophia."

It was unusual for Tylers father to drop us off but at the same time it was kind of cool to get to ride in his nice new car. By the time I had gotten up for school today my parents had already been out of the house.

When we arrived at school I finally got a chance to talk to Tyler. Tyler's father would always make small talk in the car with me but it was always obvious that he never liked me or my family much.

"How was the rest of your summer" Tyler asked.

" I don't know it was alright I guess"

I had spent most of the summer working and when Tylers parents had planned their annual trip to Mexico I had to refuse the invite because I could not get the time off of work.

"I missed you this summer" he said.

"I missed you too" I replied.

What was once a beautiful friendship had turned into this awkward mess of a conversation. And then it hit me. We were in high school now, we had to schedule our classes in the spring but I completely forgot to ask Tyler what classes he was taking. It turns out we had completely opposite schedules. Tyler was never one for school and had decided to take the easier courses. I however loved school and wanted to take the hard classes and the fun science courses.

The only thing Tyler and I had together was lunch. We had never had a situation where we were not together at school and that was scary to me.

"Hey Tyler" I said as my voice trembled.

"Yeah?"

"I'm kinda scared to do this without you"

"Don't be" he said. "You were made to be here Sophia, you will outshine the school, you don't need me to be happy or succeed and hey I'll still be around and we still have our morning drives and our lunches and our walks home."

"Ok, ok, ok, you're right im just being silly."

Just like that the bell rang and everyone outside the school scrambled inside to find their classes.
