My name is Dawn and this was the date my life was changed.
I was having a normal day, doing normal things. I am 26 years old and I'm average all around. I live with my family which included my mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and 3 siblings. We are not poor but we aren't rich at least with money. This house was always filled with laughter.
I miss those simple times when I didn't know anything, I was happy. However, now that I know the truth I will not stay silent.
IF YOU WANT TO STAY IN YOUR HAPPY BUBBLE PLEASE STOP READING NOW. Do not go any further, this is your last time to turn around. If you are ready, then listen to my story and spread it as far as you can. They can't get rid of all of us, let us begin.
Cleveland, Ohio 6/6/2016
That night my grandfather searched for my grandmother for 3 days, only to find her standing in the living room as if nothing had even happened. She also stopped speaking that day.
I missed her voice, she would make up songs every time I can to visit to express how happy she was that I would visit even though I am teenager now. My other siblings didn't visit as much because she would always guilt trip us into going to church on Sunday. I didn't want to go either but she would make my favorite dessert after and that was an offer I could not refuse.
After that day something changed in my grandmother. My parents told me this was what happens when you get older. Everyone including me decided that my grandma must had wander of on her own because of dementia. But something just didn't seem right.
She was in a state of confusion and had panic attacks yet wouldn't even let out a scream. My little sister faith who is 5 at the time thinks that the lady that stole the mermaids voice must had kidnaped grandma at took hers too. A month after the incident, grandpa decided to move in with us. We were all glad about this decision, my parents decided to pour there savings into buy a 5 acre piece of land and there was a lot to do.
Getting out of the house seem to put my grandmother at ease as well. This made my grandfather extra happy with the choice he made. Grandma was raised on a farm and started to make her own little garden with the help of my little sister faith who mainly wanted to stick her hands in the dirt.
Grandma looked so happy and relaxed now. So I finally decided to ask her what happened in those 3 days that she was gone. I thought maybe she just needed a break from grandpa or some thing and I really wanted her to talk to me again.
She slowly turns towards me, her eyes staring into my eyes, then she looks up. Grandma beginning to shake and scream. My little sister runs away scared, screaming " MOMMA!" I am frozen. My father comes and tried to soothe her but its not working. Grandpa then gives her a shot and she slowly falls asleep. Grandpa then turns his head to me, "What did you do?" he yelled. I told the truth fully prepared to be beaten for causing grandma such pain. He puts his hand on my shoulder. I look up to see the tears in his eyes, "I made the same mistake, listen up everyone I don't know what happened that night but it must have been something evil this is the last time we will talk about this again, understand." Grandpa waits for us all to nod our heads.
I felt so ashamed that I did not think of my grandmothers feelings before asking such a question. That night I listen to my favorite reggae song hoping to relax my mind but the screams are still fresh in my thoughts.
We all managed to erase that day and went on like nothing had even happened.
