"We should get going."
"Mm. But do we really?"
Your elbow jabbed Robin gently, earning yourself a whine. Her form buckled over onto your thighs in pitiful laziness, making your eyes roll.
"Come onn. We'll be late."
You shook her shoulder to emphasize your point. She didn't budge, instead rolling over to lay her back to your legs.
"What if we just...stayed here. I'm actually pretty comfortable right now."
Her nonchalant attitude over making herself comfortable on you threatened heat to flash your cheeks. Her lazy stare remained on the ceiling fan while yours avoided her freckled profile, knowing if you stared too long you wouldn't be able to stop. Your palm gave her another shake.
"I don't think Steve will be too happy if we ditched."
Neither would Keith, but no one pays attention to him anyway.
Family Video was a delight, with Robin and Steve there at least. Your uniformed vests hung atop your closed closet door, a physical reminder of the shift the two of you started in fifteen. And you lived fifteen minutes away. So moving off the bed despite Robin's protests, you retrieved her vest and flung the hanger beside her on the bed. Turning away from her, you began to strip out of your oversized sleep shirt to make room for a cleaner button down.
Robin huffed while grabbing the hanger adorned in clothes, not bothering to shield herself before pulling off her shirt. When you turned to face her, work shirt tucked and buttoned, your blood stilled at the sight, lungs forgetting to function and breath escaping you.
Robin didn't notice your malfunction, too focused on finding the neckhole of her turtleneck, but you couldn't move. A lavender underwire, complimenting her features like a playboy model, greeted you as if it was a regular tuesday. As if it were on the body of a celebrity and not the one of your best friends. And it was beautiful. She, Robin, was beautiful.
You realized in that moment, you didn't hate the idea of her always being like this. Spending time with you before work, trusting you to the point of changing in the middle of your room, doing absolutely nothing together but it feeling like the most fun you've ever had. Maybe you can indulge in this fantasy for a little while, before forcing yourself to move on from a dream that could never happen.
"I'm ready at last."
Robin announced while throwing on the teal Family Video vest, personalized with pins and her nametag. You blinked a couple times, fingers fumbling with your own vest while you recouped your senses.
"Uh, yeah. Me too."
Closing the door to your bedroom, the two of you bid your mom goodbye on the way to your car parked out front. You'd be a little late, but better late than not showing up at all.
"Can I come hang after our shift? I wanna watch that movie where that guy turns himself into a fly."
You smiled at the thought, turning towards her while twisting the key in the ignition.
"Yeah, for sure."
