Pain: Short Story

1 0 1

Step 1: Never look back at the mistakes you've made, just keep looking forward with your chest out.

Step 2: Realize every decision you've ever made was a horrible mistake and now you're all alone because of it.

My fingers hover over the keyboard as I stare at the brightened screen with a distaste of my own guilty conscience. Everything was spinning in my head as my heart was pounding loudly in my chest as I could feel the sweat forming on my forehead and my back. I kept looking at the screen hoping that somehow everything would fix itself.

But it wouldn't.

And that's the cruel thing about life. You will make mistakes and you can fix them with the right tools, but sometimes, even after countless attempts, there is no getting back what you lost. The dignity that took you so long to built, now gone to the wind, the wonderful life you built for yourself, crumbled underneath your feet at every mistake you made, the ones you loved and cherished, now buried six feet under by your doing and hands, the security you once felt, now is a scorching touch just as if you were to touch lava.

Everything is your fault.

And you know it.

But you can't fix it.

That is the hardest thing about life.

Step 3: Unbury all the bodies you've buried and look at those faces that once thought of you as a person who could do no wrong.

Step 4: Burn your identity and never look back.

Don't even look back as the caws of crows could be heard in the background.

Don't even look back as you hear the groan of a loved one.

Don't hope for their existence.

Don't hope for something to undo your sins.

Instead you must repent for them.

Step 5: Take a deep breath and plunge your consciousness, the only good part of you, into the dark abyss of your mind to never be heard from again.

Live in the pain that you've caused.
