3 am
Sleep fogged Jennie's mind as she sat curled up in the seat by Lucy's bed as she slept. Lisa sat beside. her, curled up with her hand tightly clasped in Jennie's, sound asleep. Jennie on the other hand, refused to.
She blinked her heavy eyelids and sighed, pushing herself off her chair and groggily making her way into the hall, then into a waiting room and to a machine that sold coffee.
As Jennie waited by the machine as it dispensed her much needed pick me up, she heard soft female voices speaking down the hall. She picked up her now ready coffee and quickly added sugar and milk, which the hospital thankfully provided before curiously following the voices, finding none other than her sister and Jisoo's sister, Jeongyeon, standing by a large window looking over the Gangnam district. She was confused for a moment, didn't her mother sent Nayeon home? Why was she back?
"I can't deal with this," Jennie heard Nayeon whimper as she shakily paced back and forth in front of the window, while Jeongyeon sat in one of the chairs, looking sleepy but sympathetic. She was wearing pajamas, shorts and tank top peaking out, "What if something happens to her? What if she gets worse? Jennie cannot handle that. What if.."
Jeongyeon frownedas she watched the distressed girl practically dig hole into the floor of the hospital. She stood up and quickly approached the short girl, stopping her what she's doing, "Hey, hey stop it. Let's just hope she gets better, relax okay?"she cooed softly, she stroked Nayeon's cheek and kissed it softly. Soon as her lips hit her cheek, Nayeon finally relaxed yet still tensed.
"Everything happens for a reason. I'm sure God has a reason for giving such a beautiful girl a horrible sickness and soon enough we'll find out," Jeongyeon murmured pulling Nayeon into her arms and hugging her tightly.
Nayeon breathed a small sigh and nodded slowly, hugging the younger girl back tightly, "Thanks Jeongyeon," unaware of her younger sister's watchful and teary eyes as she watched the exchange.
"No problem bunny," she whispered as Nayeon tilted her head up and placed a gentle kiss to the taller girl's lips.
Jennie gasped softly as she watched the loving moment, covering her mouth. She was aware that Nayeon had feelings for Jeongyeon but wasn't aware they were reciprocated or had something going on. Biting her lip to hide her smile, she turned away to go back to her daughter's room, letting them have their privacy.
9am
Sleep eventually won the battle and Jennie found herself curled up in the very uncomfortable hospital chair unconscious. Hearing voices around her, however, caused her to instantly wake up in confusion. With a small groan, she uncurled herself and looked up seeing the nurse tending to Lucy and speaking to Lisa in hushed tones.
"What's going on?" Jennie whispered, sitting up and looking at her still sleeping daughter and then glancing back at the nurse and Lisa.
"She's just replacing the IV baby," Lisa whispered sitting back down and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
Jennie sighed and nodded groggily rubbing her eyes, "What time is it?" she mumbled, seeing some sunlight pour into the room from the open door and the slightly shut curtains.
Lisa looked at her phone from her pocket, "Almost 9:30 am," she mumbled through a yawn as she brushed her bangs, "Want breakfast? I can run down and get us something."
Jennie nodded and smiled at her in thanks as she gave her a kiss on the cheek and then she was off. Watching her retreating back, Jennie looked at her still slumbering daughter and gently pushing some hair from her face before kissing her forehead softly and standing up, telling the nurse quietly she was going to get coffee from the machine in the waiting room.
The middle aged nurse smiled and bowed her head at the young mother as she continued her work.
Jennie made her way out in the busy hallway, a vast change from quiet at night to busy at daylight. She found herself seeing Jeongyeon getting herself coffee as well.
She smiled as she approached her, taking a paper cup from the table and inserting the needed amount of money into the machine.
Shoving the cup under the nozzle as the coffee began to pour out of it, she turned and looked at her in a raised eyebrow, "So when are you gonna tell me you're banging my sister?"
Jeongyeon choked on her coffee she just took, "W-ehh? No such thing ba-banging going on."
Jennie giggled at her flustered state, "Relax, I know, I just saw you two last night. Kissing."
Jeongyeon blushed, putting her coffee down and grabbing a few napkins to clean off the spilled liquid on her shirt, "Oh you saw that?"
Jennie nodded, picking up her coffee, "Yep so you have anything to say to me?"
She let out a breath, her cheeks tinted red as she cleared her throat, "Uh.. We kind of talked last night during dinner.. We kissed and um," she shrugged smiling sweetly at her friend, "We're kinda dating? But taking it slow of course."
The younger girl grinned at her as she gingerly sipped her coffee, "Good, you better treat her right."
"Yeah yeah, she's makes me feel special, I'll take care of her."
"I'm happy to hear that," she smiled just as Lisa popped her head into the room, looking for her. Jennie looked over and met her eyes, smiling at her and waving her over.
Lisa furrowed her eyebrows and walked into the waiting room, eyeing Jeongyeon curiously as she walked towards her girlfriend.
"Jeongyeon unnie, what are you doing here?'
"I came with Nayeon early this morning. She called me crying because of Lucy and now I am here," she paused as her face turned sympathetic, "I-I'm sorry about Lucy guys."
Jennie chewed on her bottom lip, forcing a smile, "Thank you. Like you said last night, everything happens for a reason."
11 am
Lucy was finally awake and was glumly watching Spy Family on the TV, her room was filled with balloons and toys for the toddler. Lucy's eyes lit up as they did on Christmas morning in excitement when she saw all three of her grandparents and her aunts bring them even more gifts into her private room.
"Whoaa," the three year old cried excitedly, sitting up and grinning from ear to ear, "Is that all for me?"
Mrs. Manoban laughed at her granddaughter's excited tone, placing a basket of all the goodies on a table by her bed, "Who else would it be for?"
"Umm my birthday is coming up," Bam joked as he leaned against one of the bigger baskets that Lucy's gifts were in, only to receive glares from Jennie and Lisa. He rolled his eyes and chuckled.
Lucy's smile couldmt not have been any bigger as she watched Nayeon and Jeongyeon place their smaller baskets down, ignoring her uncle's silly joke. One had candy and the other had cookies. Lucy felt like she's in heaven.
"Wow," she breathed, her brown eyes gleaming.
"Wow is right," Jennie laughed, getting up from her seat at the window and walking over to her parents, thanking them for their gifts, "Thank you so much."
"Oh please," Mr. Kim waved off her statement with a chuckle, "Anything for Lucy. It's our job to spoil our grandkids."
Jennie laughed and hugged him tightly mumbling another thank you and smiling at her excited daughter. Her smile fell, however, when the specialist came in the room to examine and speak with Lucy and herself.
Seeing how many people were in the room, Dr. Lee looked at them in surprise, "I'm sorry we can't have this many people in the room."
They all nodded, apologizing to the doctor before leaving the room and shutting the door silently. Jennie asked Lisa to stay so she knows what's going to happen with their daughter.
