It was a bright and sunny day, perfect weather to stop by the shops! Except for vampires that is. What does Melonie have to worry about that, She's just a normal human after all. That's what she tells herself at the very least.
The quaint plaza was bustling with charming little shops, and the delicious scent of pancakes wafted over from the cozy diner nearby. Melonie didn't have time to browse for new trinkets, Her focus was on obtaining her milk. She stopped by the farmers' market to get fresh milk.
Perfect Melonie thought as she was ready to head back home until someone caught her eye.
She was a charming lady, with a petite frame and a cute face adorned with lovely freckles and surrounded by fluffy copper curls. Seeing her made Melonie's heart flutter, well, it would make her heart flutter if it was still pumping. The point is, Melonie couldn't get her eyes off of her. The Woman looks over to Melonie, and they lock eyes.
"Melon bread!" The woman says with a smile
Melonie stuttered, "Oh! I, Ah...Hi Chamomile!" She felt like she was going to blush but as stated before, her heart had stopped pumping by dawn.
"Are you sick? you look flushed and you're cold as ice." Chamomile says as she touched Melonie gently on the cheek.
"Sick...? Oh! uhm, Yes actually, I came down with a fever last night..."
Melonie didn't think of it as a lie. In a sense, Vampirism is a form of illness, no? No! It's not because Melonie is not a vampire.
"Well, that's no good! You know, I have the perfect chicken soup recipe if you're interested. I know you're a bit of a cook,"
"Ah, I'm actually going to make some red velvet cake right now," Melonie said nervously
"Oh, how fun! I love cake," Chamomile exclaimed
Melonie paused, "Would, You like to come with me? T- To have some cake. Only if you want to though," she said, sweating.
"Of course! We can brew up some tea to go alongside it!" Chamomile replied.

Back at Melonie's House, she got started on the cake as Chamomile looked around. Chamomile looked inside the guest bedroom, It smelled somewhat like rust. The same sent could be found in Melonie's Room.
Speaking of Melonie, she was inside the kitchen; the smell of red velvet cake relieved her, Normal food, normal, sweet food. All she wanted was things to be normal. Things were normal! She was baking like normal, her house was Normal, everything was normal! But she didn't feel normal.
She sat down on the living room couch. Chamomile had seen every bit of the house and sat down next to her. Small talk and the smell of sweets baking brightened up the atmosphere. Melonie got up from her seat to the ding of the kitchen timer.
Chamomile began to brew a pot of tea as Melonie frosted the cake. She decorated it with little white chocolate bats that she had forgotten to use on some cupcakes she had made for a Halloween potluck.
The cake was fluffy and moist, impressive for being from cake mix. The flavor didn't necessarily mix well with that of the tea, but it was still a delicious snack for the two of them. The sun was setting and Chamomile said her goodbyes as she was heading home. Melonie waved goodbye and walked back inside.
Maybe everything will turn out okay. Melonie thought as she laid down on the couch.
She dozed off for about an hour because when she woke up it was already dusk. She got up from the couch to go sleep on her bed instead. She stopped in a cold sweat as she got up however. Outside her balcony there was a tall woman standing outside admiring the moonlight. Melonie recognized those crimson locks.
With mounting fury, she uttered, "You."
