They met during the rain
A gray sheet blanketed the sky, bloating out the sun's rays while light danced behind clouds. Thunder boomed, distantly foreboding the storm to come upon the gritty city of Ergastulum.
Inside a run-down apartment building, a young woman (about late teens) is smoking a cigarette at an open window. She ran her hand through short dark hair, which she usually kept pinned up in a ponytail. Taking a deep drag, she gazes down at the denizens hurriedly rushing down the sidewalks in search of shelter from the storm.
"Here again, huh?" she said to no one in particular.
The smoke from the cigarette in her mouth disappeared into the dark gray sky, absorbed by the surrounding clouds as she exhaled. As the woman traced a figure of a man and a teenage girl who appeared to be fighting with each other, her eyes narrowed. She narrowed her eyes further as she noted the girl being violently pushed from the man's grip. The brunette noted the other girl had light brown skin, black hair that came to her shoulders and was wearing skimpy clothing comprising a short shirt and tube top.
"Same shit every day," the brunette woman said. "treated like nothing but a hole"
Her brow furrowed as she watched the light-skinned girl, who was a few inches shorter than her, run towards a nearby alleyway. The brown-skinned girl stopped when a shadowy figure came into view, stepping out of a black car. The figure was a Caucasian man of about average height with blond hair and a goatee. He wore an expansive dress shirt and pants and had a silver designer watch on his left wrist. His eyes seemed to bore a hole in the girl's soul as she stood still in front of him.
"Fucking pig..." she cursed under her breath as she watched the man's lips move as he said something to her, probably asking her name. She didn't know what the girl replied with, but it caused an ugly sneer to erupt on the man's face.
SMACK!
The man raised a hand and slapped the girl across her face with enough force that the woman at the window flinched, even from this distance. Her head turned to the side, but she didn't cry out or react to the slap, instead glaring at the blond man and raising a hand to rub her cheek. He said something more to the girl, causing her to look at him again and then turn away. As the girl began walking away, the blond man grabbed her wrist again, " don't make me come and find you again Alex, understand? " He growled lowly. The girl paused, turned her head and spat on the ground at the man's feet, "Go to hell..." she snarled back.
"LITTLE BITCH!"
The man roared, his voice echoing throughout the alleyway. He grabbed the girl by her wrist, yanking her towards him, causing her to stumble. His other hand came up, and he slapped her again, this time so hard that she stumbled back and fell on her butt, tears welling in her eyes. Just as the man was about to cock a fist back, a voice rang out in the alley.
"OI DESGRAÇADO!
The blond man, who was now distracted by the voice, turned around just in time for a heavy boot to hit him in the face, throwing him off balance. He tripped over a cardboard box and fell to the ground.
Upon looking up to see who dared to attack him, he felt a mild surprise upon seeing that it was a brown-skinned woman who appeared to be in her late teens with a cigarette dangling from her plush lips. She was wearing a dark green cropped hoodie with a white tank top underneath, black sweat shorts and ankle high brown boots. A silver ring glimmered on her right middle finger and her eyes burned with anger as she stepped towards him.
"Who the fuck are you?" the man growled, getting to his feet.
"Someone who ain't afraid to fucking beat some sense into a piece of shit like you," the brunette woman answered, her hands forming into fists.
