"I don't understand, why didn't my mom tell me?" Mariah questioned.
"I don't know, she always supported us" Lauryn said.
"Exactly, it just doesn't make sense" Mariah said.
Then she put on her shades on and grabbed her purse "I have to go" she said then gave Lauryn a hug.
"Okay" Lauryn said "Take care".
"You too" She said then walked out and headed home.
When she got there she immediately called her mom.
Ring....
Ring....
Ring....
Mariah huffed "Come on pick up".
Ring....
"Hello"
"Hi Mom, it's me" She said.
"Oh hi Mariah, how are you?" Patrica said.
"I'm ok, I have something to tell you tho?" She said.
"Sure what is it love?" Patricia said.
"Well I saw Lauryn yesterday" She said.
"Really?" Patricia said.
"Yes, and we talked and she explained why she left" She said.
"Oh did she" Patricia said.
"Mhm, and she said that you knew why she left too because she called and told you, why did you lie to me?" She asked.
Patricia went silent.
"Mom!" She shouted.
"Okay! I didn't tell you because people were saying that what you two were doing was not normal" Patricia said.
"And you agreed with them? Mom how could you? I thought you supported us" She said as tears formed in her eyes.
Patricia sighed "Mariah I didn't want you to go through what I had to go through".
"How? I thought Grandma knew about us" She said.
"She doesn't know that it's a girl tho, I never told her" Patricia said.
"Why not?" She asked.
"Because Mariah she's very religious and she's always talking about how people shouldn't be with the same sex, I didn't want you to lose the only family you had so I did what I had to do" Patricia said.
"Mom you could've at least told me and everything would've made since, but you just stood there and watched me cry myself sick" She said.
"I'm sorry baby I just wanted what was best for you" Patricia said.
"If you really wanted what's best for me then you would've accepted me for who I was and who I wanted in my life not listen to everyone else" She said then hung up and cried.
Moments later her phone began to ring. She wiped her noes and picked up the phone.
Sniff "Hello" She said.
"Mariah, ar-are you ok?" Lauryn asked.
"I.....no I'm not" She said.
"Do you want me to come over?" Lauryn said.
As much and Mariah wanted to say no she couldn't "Yeah".
"Ok, I'll be over there in 30min" Lauryn said.
"Okay" She said then hung up and went into the bathroom to take a shower before Lauryn got there. When she was done she went into her room and picked out something comfy. When she was done there was a knock at the door so she went to open it.
"Hey" Lauryn said.
"Hi, come in" Mariah said.
"This is kind of nice" Lauryn said looking around the room.
"Thanks, it ain't much but I try" She said as they both sat down on the couch.
"So what's wrong?, it sounded like you were crying over the phone" Lauryn said.
"I was talking to my mom" She said.
"What did she say?" Lauryn said.
"She said that she didn't tell me because she didn't want my fathers side of the family to disown me like her family did her" She said looking down as tears wailed in her eyes.
Lauryn grabbed her hand and tried to comfort her.
"And I understand her reason but she acted as if you were something she could just easily just get rid of and it not effect me at all....Lauryn I needed you" Mariah began to cry. she couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Ssshhhhh don't cry don't cry" Lauryn said rubbing Mariah's back.
"Look at me" Lauryn said wiping her tears.
"I can't get back the years I missed but if you let me I can make it up starting now because I missed you just as much you missed me" She said.
Mariah wrapped her arms around Lauryn "Never leave again".
"I won't" She said.
