It was natural for things to become tangled up when one thing goes wrong in a job, leading to a cascade of other problems.

Ilya's organization was providing mercenaries and weapons in a region of the Middle East where conflicts between religion and politics were ongoing. Two months ago, they received a proposal from their major client, offering to pay double their usual fee if they could rescue a person who had been kidnapped by the opposing side.

The offered amount indicated the significance of the individual to them. Ilya didn't immediately agree and delayed their response, eventually deciding to proceed after securing a payment that was three times the usual fee.

The job was successfully completed, and to avoid tracing the funds, they agreed to receive the payment in encrypted cryptocurrency. However, in the brief moment between verifying the deposited money and making the withdrawal, due to the incompetence of one fool, 1 billion dollars vanished.

The other party took advantage of the fact that at the time they made the deposit, the cryptocurrency had the value corresponding to the initially agreed amount, absolving themselves of any responsibility. In reality, after the funds entered Ilya's account, the cryptocurrency plummeted, making it impossible for them to hold the other party accountable.

It was frustrating to accept the situation and think about future transactions, but that's how it goes.

Since the loss happened in an instant, does it mean that earning a similar amount would be just as easy?

As he listened to Ryujin's words, he was dumbfounded and could only let out a bitter laugh. He was someone who had not tasted the bitterness of life. It was somewhat expected, given his young and inexperienced nature, but even at his age, Ilya had experienced countless trials and tribulations. He was someone from a category that Ilya could understand but didn't want to associate with.

However, the reason they let him live was that the amount of 1 billion dollars was significant enough to impact the organization. If even a portion of it couldn't be recovered, it would put them at risk of canceling all subsequent transactions because they wouldn't be able to cover the fees.

Compared to the deals that were slipping away one after another, investing around $100,000 as a test seemed like a small price to pay.

Having boasted confidently, let's see where he stand. Although he may have a track record, it was still doubtful how much that young kid could accomplish. There was some expectation, even though the scale was lower than before.

Ilya wasn't the type of mafia who would shoot someone without hesitation just because he didn't like them. Even if someone was an enemy, if there was a possibility that they could be of help to him in the future, he would observe them patiently. But once the final conclusion was "No," then there was no mercy. He didn't show any consideration for women, children, or the elderly.

There was still a possibility for Ryujin. Perhaps he could be useful.

Knock... knock...

As he lifted his head at the sound of someone knocking, the door opened without a word, and one of his subordinates entered. His expression was twisted in a mess. He seemed like he wanted to say something but kept closing his mouth repeatedly.
