Jacinta's alarm chimed softly, rousing her from a peaceful slumber. She groggily reached over to silence it, her eyes adjusting to the faint morning light filtering through her curtains

As an ambitious intern at Channel Six News, one of New York City's most watched news stations, Jacinta had been handed a golden opportunity. That was what she repeated to herself every morning.

From the much less lively streets of Madrid in Spain, she grew up comfortable with her parents and extended family that was always close by. Being the only child to her parents, she was their absolute pride and joy.

Which was why after finishing up at secondary school, Jacinta's father, Elio, had personally funded for his only child to travel and move across the world to North America, specifically to the Big Apple otherwise known as New York.

Shaking off her drowsiness, Jacinta swung her legs over the edge of her bed and stood up. Padding over to the window, she pulled the curtains aside to reveal the cityscape bathed in the soft hues of dawn. The streets were already stirring with early risers, and the buildings cast long shadows that hinted at the day's potential.

With a surge of determination, Jacinta turned away from the window and headed for the small kitchenette in her apartment.

Her papa had found her the apartment when he'd first made arrangements for her to travel to New York, and had paid the rent on it for her first year in the city. After securing her spot as an intern for Channel Six, Jacinta had taken on the responsibility of paying her own rent.

She filled the kettle with water and set it on the stove, the gentle hiss of the gas burner a comforting background noise. While the water heated, she retrieved a French press and measured out a precise amount of coffee grounds, a ritual that never failed to ground her.

As the rich aroma of coffee filled the air, her phone pinged with a message notification. She glanced at the screen to find a message from Vernon, a cameraman at Channel Six.

Vern: Make sure you're ready in ten, O'Neil and I are on our way.

She quickly typed him back a response.
