It was a quiet afternoon, and since I had nothing to do, I decided to go to our garden to ease my boredom. But it didn’t last long because I heard Manang calling me from a distance.
"Ma'am Zari," she called as she got closer to where I was."Why, Manang Solly?" I asked as she finally reached me.
"Ma'am Zari, your mother is calling," she said as she handed me the phone.
"Alright, Manang, thank you very much." I said, and she immediately left.
I quickly answered the call from Mama.
"Sweetie, you’re in charge of the house for now. Your dad and I are going out," Mama said, sounding busy on the other line.
"Okay, Mama, but where are you going?" I asked because, as far as I remember, they didn’t have any business trips planned.
"Just do what I told you," she replied, quickly hanged up the phone.
It was twelve noon when he called. He was my very first boyfriend, and we had been together for three years. I grabbed my phone and answered his call.
"Hello, Babe, I miss you," Zacky said, sounding like he missed me a lot.
"Hi, Babe, I miss you too," I replied, trying to sound cute.
"I'm on my way. I’ll be there in five minutes," he said.
"Alright, hurry up because we're going to eat," I said before hanging up.
I told him to stay with me since I knew Mama and Papa wouldn't be home today, so it was fine to have him sleep over. We’ve done this many times.
After five minutes, he was already there.
"Hi, Babe," I greeted him with a hug.
"I missed you," I added.
"I missed you too," Zacky said as he hugged me back and showed me what he had brought.
"These are for you," he said, handing me a bouquet of flowers and some shrimp paste with mango, my favorite.
Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I felt nauseous. I rushed to the bathroom, and everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital.
I saw Zacky sitting with his head down. He perked up when he saw that I was awake.
"Babe, are you okay? Does anything hurt?" he asked in quick succession.
"Babe, what happened?" I asked, ignoring his questions.
But before he could answer, the doctor came in.
"How are you feeling, Ms. Santiago?" the doctor asked.
"I'm feeling a bit better. What happened, Doc? Why did I faint?" I asked.
"You're 3 weeks and 3 days pregnant, Ms. Santiago. That's why you've been feeling nauseous; it's because you're pregnant," the doctor explained.
I suddenly froze in my bed. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how I would tell Mama and Papa about this.
"Excuse me, Doc? Did I hear that right?" Zacky asked, unable to believe it.
