A knight in newly crafted and polished armor treaded slowly along the rushing water of a riverbank.
A fellow knight walked closely behind, shadowing the former's footsteps. She stops to gaze into the clear water before taking a deep breath.
"You don't seem enthusiastic today," the former asks.
"Should I be?"
"Well of course; we finished training just in time to join in the battle that's taking place soon."
She continues in an elevated tone, "As knights, we have sworn to defend the king and its people from evil and all wrongdoers."
"But that doesn't mean we have to kill the wrong doers, does it?"
The knight pauses for a moment and sits down on a rock, "I know. It's not like I have forgotten what happened to father."
The gloomy knight continues, "Being a knight is just an excuse to take away something from others; it may be their land, their things- maybe their life, and paint it with the reasoning of doing it for the greater good."
The once eager knight sat still in silence. Staring at the continues stream, she lets go of the tiny argument to calm her mind for the coming clash.
Her fellow knight sits down on another rock and stares blankly at the other, "I don't thin we'll make it out, Elianor. Training is very different from an actual battle."
"I know but, we don't want to let father down do we? That's why I bought these earlier in the morning." Elianor reaches for something in her pocket.
She pulls out two necklaces with a dull jewel hanging at their ends, "Pretty, isn't it?"
The other knight smiles, "is that what you bought with the little money that mother gave us?"
She continues, "You could've at least bought some food."
"Well, I wasn't hungry," Elianor leans in and dips the necklaces in the water to wash them off.
As she was doing so, a loud bell began to ring from the other side of the hill.
"I think it's time," Elianor muttered to herself.
Elianor stands up and ahnds the other knight the other necklace, "Take this and wear it. We need to hurry up."
The two hurried and found themselves behind a group of a hundred knights or more.
A formidable knight stood in front of them, towering them all as he gave a speech in a valiant and motivational tone.
"Remember brothers and sisters,"
"If ever we win, then we shall march back home as heroes."
"And if ever we lose, then in our deaths we shall be remembered as heroes."
"As long we march fearlessly and stand our ground, fighting to the very last breath, then we shall all be heroes."
"Is that clear?"
Most of the knights including Elianor replied, "Yes, commander."
Her sister looks down on the necklace silently, her heart beating faster and faster as she feels the end drawing near.
