beverly returned home that afternoon feeling heavily euphoric over a certain girl she had spoken to earlier at school.
it was oddly silent, so she carefully checked every room in her apartment before coming to the conclusion that her father was probably still at work.she sighed as she placed her school bag gently on the floor and headed went for a shower.
once she was done, she dried her wet hair and put on her comfiest pair of pyjamas.
bev looked to the corner of her room, her eyes fixing on her copy of "matilda," the book y/n loved so very much.
she smiled at the thought of y/n before brushing those thoughts away.
stop, she doesn't like you like that. she probably doesn't even like girls. you just met her.
she got up and grabbed the book, careful not to rip it. what used to be something she wasn't too bothered about was now something she would cherish forever. it was like a memory of y/n, reminding her constantly of that smile and shiny eyes. it was crazy. they'd only just met today, and she already meant so much to her.
she turned to the first page, and those words became beautifully painted images in her head.

after finishing her ham sandwich, y/n contemplated calling beverly. she didn't want to annoy her, and what if her dad picked up? she didn't know too much about him, but she still didn't want beverly to get in in trouble, or bother her.
she decided not to call beverly, not yet, anyway. she began reading "beloved" by toni morrison.
after half an hour or so, y/n decided to call beverly. she twisted the phone cord, fearful that she was going to annoy beverly.
"hello?" asked beverly's voice. y/n immediately smiled; she didn't sound too upset or angry that someone had called her.
"h-hey, it's y/n" she mumbled, shyly.
"oh, hey, y/n! how's your day going?"
"okay, thank you. what about you?" asked y/n. she wondered whether or not she could actually hear beverly smiling through the phone, or was just pretending to be happy that she had called.
"not bad, thanks for asking. i'm heading out for some ice cream in a couple of hours, you wanna come?"
y/n's heart skipped a beat. she couldn't believe it, BEVERLY MARSH, had asked her to get ice cream with her.
"y-yeah, sure! that'd be great. you practically know where i live, just fifteen minutes away from you, unless you want me to go to you?"
"it's okay, i know where you live. i gotta go, see you soon!" said the angelic voice, y/n felt like she was in heaven.
"bye!" she said happily, smiling to herself as she prepared her shower.
