SAMI'S POV

"Casey just posted on her Instagram story, Zoe's definitely at that party" Felix says, as he continued to scroll through his phone. "Woah, Heather's freaking gorgeous. Look at that cleavage" he beckons, pushing the device to Beau's side - who just rolled his eyes in response.

"I just don't like the fact that you feel the need to change yourself so much to try and prove her wrong" Beau says to me, a disapproving look in his eyes.

"But I'm not doing this for her." Lie.

"Even if that were true" he eyes me, seeing right through my lie "it still wouldn't justify the change in clothes. We've been friends for a few months but I know your wardrobe mainly consists of flannels. That's more your style" he pauses, gesturing to me up and down "and this isn't you."

His words force me to take a look at myself again, my skinny legs covered in the grey joggers I normally wear at home, when I knew no one would see me - and I yearned to be extremely comfortable.

I paired that with a tight black shirt that my mom bought me to layer underneath my flannels when we still resided in the south; and I felt incredibly bare. Naked. But I was determined to put up with it because I've convinced myself that I need to change. Prove everyone wrong once and for all.

Beau processes my silence for a moment, before heading to my closet, rummaging through the differently coloured shirts - and settling on one: "Just take this" he says, throwing my favourite black and red flannel in Felix's direction.

"Oh" Felix smiles smuggly, looking at Beau suggestively. "Was this your plan all along? Just to get to see me half-naked?" he asks jokingly, making his way towards Beau and raising his shirt a tad bit, the other boy flushing furiously, as his eyes moved to the floor.

"I-I meant p-put it in your bag, it's for Sami - when he changes his mind la-later" he stutters.

"So, you're really not coming with us?" Felix questions, the disappointment seeping into his voice.

"Yes. I don't want to have a headache on a Monday morning of all days" he says. "So I hope you'll be responsible, and take care of Sami. You know he's lightheaded."

An involuntary smile makes its way onto my face at the scene, making me glad that I had not succumbed to my insecurities and adamant nature about accepting the twos' friendship, as they both found ways to care for me on their own volition. Felix, who's brutal honesty could bring tears to ones eyes - cared more than he let on, and in cases where my stupidity surpassed my rationality, his honesty would open my eyes to the harsh reality. Whereas Beau is incredibly gentle, caring and wears his heart on his sleeve - which is why I know - without a shadow of a doubt - that he's head over heels in love with his best friend...

"So" Beau drawls "I'll just get my meatloaf and see my way out."

"Your mom made meatloaf?" Felix asks excitedly, his eyes widening.

"Didn't you see that she was packing it up before she left?"

"I was busy stalking Heather's Instagram" he pauses "Free Wi-Fi." And for just a moment, Beau's smile faltered at Felix's words - before settling on a straight face. "I can't take meatloaf to a party, all the pretty ladies will think I'm uncool - so you're gonna have to bring it to school tomorrow. And you better not forget it!"

"I'm not making any promises."

*****

By the time Felix and I arrived, the sun had completely set and the party was going full swing. The crowd that gathered outside of the two storey home made me question teenagers' reasoning: I mean, is it a normal occurrence for people to just party on a random Sunday?
