Nadia heard the bell ding and looked up at the young girl who came into the store. Her skin was honey colored and she saw a spray of freckles dashed themselves across her nose in a way that made Nadia do a double take.
"Hello, how may I help you" Nadia asked the young lady.
She watched as the teen girl touch her long box braids before clearing her throat and extending her hand. "Hi, I'm Camren Lites, I saw your poster for a social media intern and wanted to apply for the position."
Nadia's eyes widened in surprise. She shook Camren's hand. "Oh, yes! Come on over to the side with me." Nadia spoke as she came from behind her podium and walked over to the sitting area. The pair sat down and Nadia began to talk to her.
"So, first thank you for coming about the position. I am indeed looking for a social media intern. The reason why is because I want to showcase flower arrangements on social media. However- I'm never on my own social media accounts so I'm positive that I can't run one for the shop. This is where you would come in, I would want someone to first create social media accounts and maintain them. Your hours would be pretty flexible because I assume you're still in highschool, right?"
"Yes ma'am. I'm a junior." Camren replied.
"I remember being a junior. What school do you attend?" Nadia asked.
"Westside High." Camren replied.
"Girl- I went to Westside high. Is Mr. Jones still there?"
"Yes, ma'am. He's still pushing that mop while sitting on a stool."
The ladies shared a laugh and Nadia felt comfortable with Camren. Camren started to loosen up .
"Can I show you some of my social media work? A couple of my friends have vlogs and ask me to take some photos for them from time to time." Camren said as she pulled out a portfolio full of pictures that she'd taken. Each one was labeled with the date she took them, plus how many likes and comments each post received.
Nadia took her time looking through the portfolio, asking questions which Camren answered with ease. Once she got to the last page of the portfolio, she knew that Camren was the perfect choice.
"Camren, I'm not gonna lie. I would love for you to work for me."
Camren's eyes lit up. "Really? God is so good; I prayed all the way over here." She said, excitement showing through her voice. Ok, I have no idea what these new social media apps are. The last app I got when I graduated college is now considered something for old heads." Nadia said to the young girl before her. She watched as the young girl laughed, her light brown skin turning red.
Nadia smiled at her laughter and knew that she and Camren would have a great time together.
"Well, listen- while I am excited about you possibly joining me- take the paperwork home. Ask your guardians and definitely pray about it. I know that you are going to make the right decision. Once you have done all that, come back and see me." Nadia expressed. She wanted to hire Camren, but she also knew that God needed to speak to them both before moving forward with anything.
After saying their goodbyes, Nadia went to the back and began to pray over the situation. Lately, she had felt God leading her to pray more during the early hours of the shop. And while she was confused at first, she felt better and better each time she spend some time with God, allowing His presence to hill his space.
Just as she had finished worshipping, the back door to the shop turned and Jalil walked in with bags in his hands. He had went to the store for the shop on his bi-monthly errands.
Smiling at him, Nadia tied her apron around her waist and walked over to him, peeking inside of the bags.
"How was the store, baby?"
Jalil began taking their necessities from the bags. " Same ole' same old. How was the meeting with the intern?" Jalil said, looking at her and moving a stray piece of hair from her face.
"Baby it was so good. Her name is Camren. She's 17 and honestly so bright. She kinda reminds me of myself. I was just praying about it and asking God to lead us in the right direction. I know that everything is gonna work out."
Jalil stood and grabbed her waist as he kissed her forehead. "God is on your side and will lead you the right way."
Nadia nodded her head at his words and gave him a quick peck on the lips before moving away from him to unpack the rest of the things they needed.
