Prologue

*The alarm rings*

I quickly pulled off my grey covers and began to race to the bathroom, it was important I got up early to avoid any distractions from my father, the man that has made my life a living hell since the day my mother left without a trace.

Heading to the bathroom, I look in the mirror only to feel disgusted by the sighting, purple and black bruises everywhere displaying my fathers anger and hatred towards me. Although I never really knew why he started acting like this, I could only imagine it had to do with my mother, after all we looked exactly alike, from the picture I managed to dig up from research.

Taking a deep breathe, I began to mentally prepare myself for this upcoming week's shit show. "Pull yourself through Alana, we've got this" reminding myself that I had too, in order to move out of this house.

6:45 in the morning and it was time for me to be heading out the door to Little Collins, the cafe I worked at for a year, tiptoeing my way down the steps and the floor creaked.

"ALANA WHERE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING " my father said in a harsh tone looking at me from the kitchen. Preparing for the worst, I tell him "I'm going to work to get some cash for the house" staring blankly at him.

He moves closer to me. "Is that true?" He asks. "Yes, I know we've needed support for the house" knowing I was telling half of the truth only to please him, to be honest for about a month now I've been saving up to get away, but my father always found himself asking for alcohol.

"Well be a good girl and pick up some peach moonshine, you wouldn't want daddy to get angry."

"But- father I-" and just as you know, he slapped me right across my face causing me to stumble backwards into the wall. "BUT NOTHING, BRING ME MY MOONSHINE" he said, holding my chin up so I could stare deeply into his cold hearted eyes, that once used to shower me with love.

"yes father," I managed to mumble, as I began to head out the door crying.

"Hey there Alana" my friend Jordan says. Jordan's the same age as me and has been a great friend of mine since middle school. He managed to get me and him both jobs at parents family cafe and we've been working here ever since. "Hey Jor, ready to start the day" I say, knowing that we both hated working here. "I guess," he says, chuckling at me and then proceeding to clock in after me.

After a couple of hours, I've instantly begun to become tired, the bruises on my back was burning, my legs were tired, and there was still so many customers to serve. "Lana there's a couple people at table two could you please serve them" Jor says, making me lose track of my thoughts as I nodded my head letting him know I heard him.

Walking out, I see two people a small rather peaceful looking woman and a tall man standing beside her, which I'm guessing is her son. "Hello ma'am my name is Alana and I will be your waitress, what can I get for you two? I say smiling, the woman scans the menu as her son continues to just stare at me.

After a couple of seconds in silence, she begins to order "I'll have a three buttermilk pancakes please with one coffee extra sugar" the older woman says, "Got you and you would like sir" I say turning to face him. "I'll take the same but make the coffee a strawberry lemonade please" he says, with a thick Spanish accent and a stern face. "Ok it'll be out in no time" I say, turning back to place their orders in.

Placing their orders in, I felt it, someone had their damn eyes on me and come to find Jor staring deadly into my soul smiling from ear to ear. "What Jor" I say slightly annoyed. "I saw you out there and I just wanted to say..." he starts to chuckle before he finishes his sentence, "I just wanted to say I could see you and him becoming a cute couple" he smiles.

"Jordan, that's a stranger" I say, shaking my head in disbelief. "He won't be so strange if you get to know him... go say he looks handsome and ask for his number" Jor say's confidently and for some strange reason I found myself drawn to doing it.

*Ding*

The chief rings the bell, alerting me that the food was ready, as I made my way out of the back towards table two, my eyes met his, and he quickly began to leave, muttering the words "I'm sorry mama" as I placed the food down.

Me being nosy, I ask, "is everything alright?"

She looked at me with a warm smile. "Yes, everything is alright my son.." she paused. "He just had an emergency he needed to tend to"

I gave a warm smile in exchange, and wished her that everything would be alright.
