"Son!" My drunk dad shouted from the living room. Our house was huge, so he was pretty fucking loud. I groaned, pausing the football game on my TV.
"Hey!" My four year old brother, Max, yelled at me for pausing the TV. He sat down on my bed with his crayons and coloring book on his lap. We usually did this every night; we would watch football or any game on, and Max would color, but I was usually on my phone or coloring with Max.
"I know, I'll be right back. Whatever you, stay in the room, Max. I mean it." I warned him. He nodded his head and then smiled, showing me his toothless grin. He lost one big tooth and thinks he's a "big boy".
"But I'm a big boy, Crew! I can help you." He said, about to get up. I gave him a warning look, and he stopped moving, going back to his coloring. I unlocked my door and locked it again with my key.
Then I walked downstairs to my father. "What dad?" I asked as I got to the doorway that led to the living room.
"Don't give me a fucking attitude. Go get me some more alcohol." He nodded towards me, looking at the TV, not bothering to look at me.
"I'm not of age," I told him, like I did every day. Once he ran out of alcohol, he would make me go get it.
"Get a Fake ID." He told me, shrugging his shoulders like this was my problem.
"How about you go walking to get some?" I asked, he turned his head, glaring at me. Then he stood up, but I made no move to move. He moved towards me, fisting my shirt and pushing me into the wall behind me. I didn't flinch, showing him I wasn't afraid.
"Go get me alcohol before I beat the shit out of you." He grinded his teeth together, showing that he was pissed off. Me too buddy.
"You won't do shit." I replied back, shoving him. His drunk self tripped over himself and fell to the ground. I walked back upstairs, fisting my hands. I calmed down before entering my room and locking the door again.
"Want to go get some ice cream?" I asked Max, who was still coloring, when I entered my bedroom.
"Sure! But we didn't have dinner yet." He replied, looking up at me.
"Alright, we will get some dinner and ice cream. How about that?" I asked.
"Okay!" He lifted his arms up in excitement, jumping down on the floor and putting his shoes on.
I picked up Max, grabbed my phone, wallet, and car keys, and put him in my truck.
***
"Can I get chicken tenders?" My little brother, Max, asked.
"Of course, buddy." I chuckled and got out of my truck, grabbing Max from the backseat. He sat in his booster seat, a smile on his face.
I put him down and grabbed his hand, taking him into the small diner. We went up to the hosting table. The older lady smiled at us and grabbed one adult menu and one kid menu. "Just for two?" She asked.
I nodded my head and followed her to our table near the window, overlooking the road. "Do you need a booster seat?" asked the hosts.
Before I replied, Max said, "No, I am a big boy."
I smiled and looked down at the grinning hostess. "Thank you, but we're okay." I said.
"Okay, your waitress will be with you shortly." She said and set the menus and crayons on the table. I helped Max up onto his seat.
"So what's happening at daycare?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest and laying back on my chair.
"Nothing," Max blushed, looking outside through the window.
"Then why are you blushing? Do you like someone?" I asked, chuckling at his behavior.
"Well... I kinda like this girl named Anna. We always color together, and she's my friend." He said, now looking at me.
"Oh really," I was about to say something, but our waitress came over. Damn, she was gorgeous, she looked familiar. Where did I know her?
"Hello, my name is Dahlia. I will be your waitress today, what can I start you off with?" She asked, pulling her notepad out. Aww cute, it had books on it. She finally looks up at me, and she gasps. Oh, I know her. The girl from this morning who ran into me.
She clears her throat before looking at Max. "Can I get a Choclate Milk please?" Max asked, pausing his coloring to look up at her.
"Of course," she replied, writing down his order. Then she finally looked back at me. Damn she had gorgeous eyes, just like I remembered from this morning.
"A black coffee please." I said. She nodded before walking away. I couldn't help but look at her as she walked away.
"Do you like her?" Max asked. I shook my head quickly and looked back at him to see him staring at me.
"No," I replied.
After Max and I started talking, a couple minutes passed and Dahlia came back with our drinks. "Are we ready to order?" She asked, using her waitress smile.
"Yeah we are." I said, still staring at her, but she wouldn't keep eye contact with me.
"He will get the chicken fingers and fries, and I will have the hoagie, with no onions." I said, pointing to Max for his order. Dahlia wrote everything down before smiling, taking our menus, and then leaving.
***
It's been about fifteen minutes, and our food comes, but it's not delivered by Dahlia, it's delivered by a different person.
"Is it good?" I mumble to Max, while chewing my sandwich. He nods, dipping his chicken in barbecue sauce and eating it. He does a little dance. I smile, god, he's adorable.
