It was finally Friday, this week had been so long, I couldn't wait for it to end. Although I dreaded going home. My parents were also off, and they were always fighting. So they just never come home. They would leave early in the morning and come home late.
I couldn't help but admit that I was lonely. I just wanted my parents back. Ever since their divorce, I barely see them. I thought about addressing it once, but stopped because they are both stubborn people and immediately become defensive.
I unlocked my car door and hopped in, placing my bag in the passenger seat. Tonight I had a shift at the diner, but only for four hours. That wasn't until later, so I decided to head to the bookstore before.
I started my car, before pulling away, someone knocked on my window, scaring the living daylight out of me. My hand flew to my chest and I gasped. I turned, staring at Crew and his cut cheek who stood outside of my car. Not again.
I roll down my window. "You scared me!" I said, controlling my breathing so I don't have a heart attack.
"Shit, sorry." He said, with a guilty look on his face. I look around the parking lot, people now staring at us. Great, more attention.
"What do you need Crew?" I barked.
"I just was wondering when your next shift at the Diner was. Max keeps asking about you." He said. Now I feel guilty for snapping at him. My parents and school were stressing me out, I guess I was holding it all in.
"Tonight around four." I said, my hands wrapping around the steering wheel.
"Alright, four. I'll see you there." He smiles before walking away. I sighed and drove away to the bookstore. After this week, I definitely deserved a new book to read this weekend.

Once I arrived at the diner, I found Crew and Max sitting at the high tops, watching whatever game was displayed.
"Hey guys, what can I get for you to drink?" My pen and notebook in hand, I asked them their orders.
"Can I have the chocolate milk please?" Max, Crew's little brother asked.
"Of course. Want a big boy cup?" I smiled, showing off my teeth.
"Yes, I'm five. So I'm a big boy." Max said in a lower voice.
"And for you?" I asked Crew.
"Just a water," he replied. I nodded and walked away, grabbing their drinks.
Placing their drinks on the bar top, I wrapped my apron around me. "Crew?" Max whispered while I wiped down the counter next to them.
"Yes?" Crew responded.
"Will dad hit you again tonight?" Max worried. I tried not to react to what I just heard. I glance up at them and find Crew's gaze staring right at me. I quickly look away.
"Max, don't worry about it, okay?" Crew stresses. Leaving them alone, I attend other customers.
By the time I get back to Crew and Max, they had left already. Weird.
