-chapter one-

starts with goodbye

“This is goodbye... I’m sorry Bella, but I think it’s for the best,” Chris told me softly. I sniffled and wiped my nose on the black sleeve of my peace sweater. “We can still be friends, right?”

“Sure. I...I gotta go...” I mumbled, then pushed my bike past him and walked away. We were out in the city park, which was pretty much deserted. I sighed and looked around, but all I could see was Chris. Chris and his brown hair with bangs that touched his long, dark eyelashes. He was super-cute, and, for a moment, he was mine. His piercing blue eyes were both captivating and intimidating. I closed my eyes, but all I saw was his smile. Oh, how I loved that smile. It would make my day, even on the worst. We’ve been through a lot for the past seven months; I couldn’t believe he was throwing me away for the British exchange student. Sure, she was pretty, but that didn’t matter because we were together. Ever since she came, he was finding ways to get out of our time together to spend time with her. Honestly, I didn’t see what he saw in her. Her wavy blond hair was too dull; her green eyes too watery. Her small fingers too fat, her face too round. Or maybe that was just me, because all my friends thought she was a beauty queen. What dimwits.

Best way to get over a guy: show him what he lost, I thought with a smile. That would be super-easy, because I knew Chris inside and out. He was very stuck-up, and one of the main reasons he dated me was because I was pretty and rich. And very popular. I giggled despite the gaping, empty feeling I had in my heart. All I needed was a short trip to the mall for a mini dress, some heels, and new eyeshadow. I sighed again and continued home.
