Entry #02627
I hid the wound from my grandparents. I don't want them to worry. Every night, I stayed up late to tend to it.
"O-ouch..." I removed the stained gauze bandage slowly.
Strange. It has been five days and yet, my wound seems not to show any sign of healing.
"It is getting worse and more painful, right?"
I froze. Somebody snatched the new rolled gauze from my hand.
'Jesse.'
He sat on the bed beside me and gently placed my feet on his lap. Then, he assessed the condition of my wound.
His hands are warm.
"You are not applying disinfectant and ointment." He shot me a glare. "Those are important you know."
I looked away. "I know. But it would hurt."
"What are you? A child? Pain can't be an excuse here. What's important here is that you should have avoided getting this wound from being infected and stressing your muscles here. See? It heals too slowly."
How could he lecture me? So upsetting. He even took the cotton, disinfectant, and ointment from the first aid kit on my bedside table to treat me without my permission.
"Does it hurt?" he asked. His eyes focused on my wound.
"Of course, it does." I bit my lower lip, suppressing the pain I was feeling.
"Lie."
I sighed. "You shouldn't have asked then."
We fell silent. He was done tying the bandage after a while.
I was so upset so I decided to speak. "I am grateful but this is not even your business to begin with. Why are you here?"
He paused and stared back at me. "I don't think I can leave you."
That puzzled me. We don't even have a deeper connection. What did he mean by that?
"I told you before. I want to be friends with you."
"What for? Besides..." My sight landed on his hands, being able to hold things. "...you have a strong attachment to this world. I don't know your real purpose."
"Oh." He smiled. "I've been observing you for the past weeks. You missed me," he teased.
"Nonsense," I denied. I was just wondering what happened to him. "You are such a stalker," I countered.
"So? Thanks to me. No evil ghost came to you."
Confirmed. My hunch was right.
"Right. Thanks. But I didn't ask you to so no thanks."
I let out a sigh and close my eyes. This is tiring me, to be honest. I stood up and looked at him intently.
"Will you please stop? Whatever you do, I will never be your friend," I said.
"How about being my girlfriend?" His smile was wider.
I grimaced. "Not a chance."
"I was just kidding." He laughed but he also stopped. His serious face made me uneasy.
"Eddie, listen. I meant what I said earlier. I don't think I can leave you. Not now."
"I need to know the reason."
"I will tell you when the right time comes but please, let me stay by your side."
"Alright."
"Thank you, Eddie!" He jumped in happiness. "Don't worry. You are not at a disadvantage. As long as I'm by your side, no shitty ghost will reach you. I'll make sure of that."
"Yeah-yeah." I yawned.
I was about to lie on the bed when he held my hand and pulled me into a hug. That caught me surprised. 'His warmth..."
"H-hey..."
"I am really grateful. Thanks a lot."
"Yeah. You're welcome? It's better if you let go now."
"Oh, sorry." His embarrassed face was quite funny.
"I let you stay near me but I have one condition: 'Never stalk me.'"
"Got it. Take it easy. I only do what is necessary." He waved his hands before disappearing.
This situation takes me into a knot.
