[Ray's pov]
It was 7 months ago, I had gone to a nearby house with Topaz to look for more food. An old house, with 6 miles of property. To be honest we didn't even know if anything was in there, we were just so desperate for anything at that point it didn't matter.
We entered a hallway with two arches on either side, leading into what we assumed was the kitchen and the lounge, and at the end of the hall were stairs to a second floor.
" You go left i go right, we go up together. " Topaz said.
" Right. " i responded.
I go to one of the arches and there, I see it. Emily just standing there silently sobbing, while surrounded by five or so dead bodies. I didn't know what to do so i called for- NO SCREAMED for Topaz. He came running in wondering what was happening. After seeing her just standing there, unfazed, still crying. He grabbed me and dragged me outside. I was panicking, I didn't know what to do. And just lIke that WHAM! He had slapped me out of it.
And I remember what he said like it was yesterday, he had said,
" GET THE FUCK UP ALREADY, YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN! I'm scared to ya know you don't see me unable to do shit. You need to listen to me that 'little girl' in there might be a demon and we don't have time for you to do this!" He took a long pause to think "lets make sure she isn't a survivor and then leave, all it takes is one look in the eyes and we're gone. Ya got that? "
I was in shock, thinking things like " did he just hit me, he never hits people, hes never yelled at anyone before, holy shit this might be a demon." So on and so forth with the same thoughts, then when i finally snapped out of it, he was gone. I passed out.
"What, where am i, what happened " then I heard Topaz sigh and say "Thank god your awake, i have two things to tell you
1. This is Emily she's a human
2. Still don't know what the dead people were about, she doesn't talk"
I was revealed about there being no demon, and that we had another person join our group... but the fact that she was surrounded by dead people is very off putting. But i was too hungry to think about it too much
"So what did you find wile i was out "
" A LOT, enough for months "
And like that Emily was a part of our family, our small, barley surviving, family. And we loved her with all our hearts. ♡
