Beep!
You don't think you had ever jolted awake so fast in your life, alarmed by the sound that had tormented you for weeks.
The boy in front of you had stepped back cautiously as you jumped awake, thermometer in hand.
" I'm not sick. " you moved your bag from the ground to over your shoulder, raising a hand to act as a shield from the sun.
" Sorry, I didn't want to wake you, infected or not. Just wanted to know if you were even alive. Do you need help? "
Unsteadily settling on your feet, you get a good look at his face, " are you some sort of do-gooder?' He seemed like just some average guy, nicely kept black hair and wire frame glasses, featuring both lenses, he displayed a genuinely worried look on his face
You felt so disgustingly weak, if this guy was to pull anything you would be defenseless against him. The little rooftop nap that he had so kindly interrupted had been more refreshing than any sleeping done in the cabin. When you felt gravity pulling you forward, they was really nothing you could do to save yourself.
"I was just- Hey!" he quickly stepped forward to catch you before you hit the ground.
August 4 - 2:16 AM
The room was very dimly lit, a soft white light coming from behind some storage shelves just to your left. The only sound resonating from the room was the sound of an oscillating fan to your right, it was weathered and wobbled on its stand as it rotated back and forth. The wall you had been propped up on was cool and roughly textured.
To put it simply you were scared shitless. Fainting into an unidentified strangers arms on the rooftop you had only intended to take a quick break on, and then waking up in what looks like the back room of a grocery store.
Going to wipe the sweat from your forehead, the rope tied around your wrist catches your arm, truly instilling more fear into you.
You were with nothing but your clothes, and a wrist tied to a water pipe in the wall, completely sure that nothing could calm the sickening thumping in your chest, in your throat. Dying was the least of your worries, but all the things that could happen the moment someone walked around the corner and into view.
5:43 AM
You anxiously chewed on the inside of your cheek, three and a half hours had never been so boring. Resorting to tapping your fingers and humming whatever the song was that had been stuck in your head all week.
" You're awake ! "
You had nearly shouted, frightened by his sudden appearance. You hadn't heard his footsteps, or the door open. This was not the same man who you had met on the rooftop. Glasses, but light messy hair, his face looked kinder.
" Start talking. " you glared at him.
" I brought you clam chowder, " the bowl was raised slightly and he anxiously smiled at you. He chuckled lightly as you only scowled at him. " I'm not supposed to talk to you, but I know I would be hungry. "
He was presenting as kind and thoughtful, but anyone with ill intentions could convince anyone anything.
" Please.. "
Maybe you weren't very good at showing your emotions, or he was completely oblivious to your shaking. But now it clicked in his head. " Oh you're probably scared, Horrified even ! " He laughed.
Is this guy fucking serious?
" You totally just like, passed out on Ted, and he really didn't wanna just leave you there. " He sat against a shelf across from you, placing the soup between the two of you. " You're still in Augusta Don't worry, An attorney's office, just south of the absolute castle that is the citadel.
He could just be lying. But he smiles.
" Who are you.. "
" Loaded question ! " creases form beneath his eyes when he smiles, a genuine smiles. " Charlie is fine. "
Charlie has the power to light up a room. But the room stayed dark for you, your guard still up as you looked him up and down, and then shifted your gaze to your bag that you had noticed on the shelf earlier that morning.
" Are you gonna let me go ? "
" As soon as Ted is sure you're healthy enough to leave, I assume. " Charlie pushes the soup a little more towards you. " I would find absolutely no pleasure in poisoning you, It's also warm. Safe to eat, and hot? I would be shitting my pants if I were you." He reached slowly reached into the pocket of the zip-up he was wearing, pulling out a plastic soup spoon. " You don't wanna be spoon-fed do you? "
A questionable look was given in response.
" Here. "
6:44 AM
" Where did you get that ? "
You quickly dropped the book in fear, some sort of book Charlie had given you on herbal medicines that you had been studying for the last hour, the spine hit the floor first, clacking loudly against the hard floor.
" I'm sorry.. "
" No, no. I'm sorry for keeping you so long. I was worried something would happen to you if I just left you there, " he nervously tried to explain himself.
" Where am I ? " asking the question again in hopes of catching a lie.
" An attorneys' office, near the citadel. "
" Can you untie me ? "
" Can you pinky swear not to kill every one of us ? " He joked.
Sitting down at the table, water and snacks were given as peach offerings. This room was certainly more pleasant, actual lamps used to light the room, sunlight peeking through the gaps of the boarded windows, it was also noticeably warmer. They had interrogated for almost and hour, vocalizing any question that came to mind.
" Is someone like waiting for you at home ? " Charlie asked you.
" No. "
" It's just you? " Ted seemed almost perplexed by the concept of you being able to survive on your own, especially after the events of moments prior.
" You should totally stick with us. " Charlie crossed his arms and shook his head, approving his own idea.
Were they so easily trusting? Or just desperate maybe. You had almost nothing to lose anyway, even if it all was a facade, you had nothing left to lose.
" Schlatt would Hate that. " Ted turned to the boy so quickly.
" He can handle it. "
