-I haven't decided yet if Devil was my enemy, but he surely wasn't my ally-
----
"Why did you break into the office?" he asked, a smug look plastered on his face.
I could imagine how easy it would've been to wipe the smirk off him and for some reason, the thought made my blood rush with thrilled satisfaction. Devil wore himself confidently, back straight with a suspicious certainty vibrating through every pore of his and all that in front of The Protector's daughter. Not that I gave a shit about that position, but it said a lot about the way Terence—who's part of the Council and good friends with Mom—was raising him. A spoiled brat dressed in men's clothes.
He didn't know what fear felt like, I could bet my life on it and despite the temptation, I didn't intend on showing him. I liked to take a close look at my enemies before joining a fight blindfolded, unlike Elaine. She'd refused to take my advice and analyze everyone during training to find their weaknesses in case it comes in handy later, that's why I was so desperate to find something in that office.
I haven't decided yet if Devil was my enemy, but he surely wasn't my ally.
The crowd outside cheered and clapped their hands in celebration, interrupting me from my thoughts and signaling the end of the Reunion was going to come shortly.
The boy without a name stepped further into the room, now only a few inches away from me as he carried a disappointed tug of his lips on his face. He clicked his tongue and glanced at the windows matching his height where he could see everyone outside.
"You might want to reply if you don't want the Council to find you here in the next ten minutes."
Correct. Might was the keyword.
I was running out of time and started to care less about the stranger whose steps followed me when I opened the door to the office, searching through the drawers.
The room was practically pilled with tall cupboards and nothing but a desk in the middle of it. It was a small place, crowded for even two people.
Devil didn't stay in my way as I looked everywhere and occasionally grabbed documents I needed. Surprisingly, he kept his mouth shut.
As much as he could.
"So what are we looking for?" he raised his shoulders, taking a few papers in his hands.
I didn't bother smacking his arms away. "We?" my eyebrows shot up as I was gathering the last few things I needed.
He stopped short. "Yeah, I'm automatically dragged into this. Don't you think?"
"No," I told him before walking away and ushering him out too. I closed the door, then placed the key from where I brought it earlier, putting the book back on the bookshelf.
