Friday morning, Nancy was still asleep when her phone began ringing and it woke her up. She sat up slowly and picked up the phone holding back a yawn.

"Hello?" she asked not knowing the number.

"Hi is this Nancy Drew the detective?" the person asked.

"Yes it is, who is this?"

"Anonymous, I want to be anonymous but, I think I saw something suspicious about that article of Scoop. See, the night before it happened, near midnight, I was walking my dog late since he likes night time, and I Saw someone running away from Scoop. They hopped the fence that is right by the place when they saw me."

"You're certain? Did it seem like they had done something bad?" Nancy asked.

"I guess, I mean it was weird and late so I assume they may have been the one to do it. But when I Saw them I turned around and didnt go by Scoop."

"Well thank you for the tip. Im gonna inspect that fence," Nancy smiled.

"You're welcome dear," The person said before hanging up.

Nancy wasted no time getting ready in a new outfit for the day and putting her hair up, she didnt want to shower and waste time. Instead she rushed out and to her car. She thought she heard her dads voice as she left but didnt stick around to know. She finally had a tip and wanted to inspect the fence.

She parked near the fence instead of right at Scoop and when she got out she started to wonder why she didnt look here ever to begin with. When she approached she looked around the area for anything and as she got closer to the real fence she could see the clue she needed. She grabbed the ripped fabric from the fence and looked at it, it was jean material at least. She sighed realizing this may actually help all she had to do was find the person with a ripped up jean area.

Then it hit her. Everett wore ripped jeans, a lot. Could it be his? She pulled out her phone and quickly called George a bit nervous as she walked to her car to get privacy.

"Hey Nancy what's up?" George answered.

"I think it's Everett."

"Woah really? How do you know?"

"Well I got a call this morning that someone was seen running away from the shop last night and hopped the fence. So I checked the fence and there is fabric from jeans there. A big piece too."

"So?"

"Everett had ripped jeans when I met him."

"Ouch. But why would he wear the jeans to work the next day?"

"I'm not sure."

"Have you confronted him?"

"No. I think I'll talk to Toni first about it."

"Good idea. Don't want to accuse your new boyfriend right away," George teased.

"George not you too," Nancy groaned.

"I'm sorry Nance you two are cute together," she chuckled, "either way good luck." After hanging up Nancy got out of the car and walked to the door of the store. Inside she saw Everett behind the counter working hard cleaning. He didnt look up or see Nancy and she really didnt think he could be bad.

"Hey Everett, is Toni here?" She asked.

"Yeah she's in the back," he told her with a smile.

"Thanks" she smiled back as she went to the back and saw Toni doing dishes and humming.

"Toni," Nancy startled her.

"Nancy you snuck up on me!," she gasped. "Any news?"

"Yeah. I don't know for certain who did it but they did leave this on the fence nearby when they jumped it," she handed her the fabric.

"Oh my God. You mean.." Toni trailed off.

"Yeah.."

"I think I know who did it." Toni said inspecting the piece of fabric.

"Me too. Everett"

"Eddie. " They answered together.

"Wait, what?"
