California kept seeing sunny days even when autumn came and we approached the beginning of a new month. The final week of October only meant one thing for as long as I could remember: Halloween.

The idea of being someone else, even if only for a night, excited me since I was a child. I discussed the endless possibilities for this year's costume with Susan, while we set up the gym for the dance. Everyone was busy and in a frenzy of excitement for the night.

«No, Dutch move to the side a little more» I instruct as I watched the boys hanging the banners up on the wall. «Ok, Bobby lift it a bit!» I proceed bossily.

«What do you think?» I consult my friend, Mary, who along with me and a few others, was in charge of the wall decorations. We debrief as I start to lose my patience with the boys, who weren't set on their work. «You know what? I think you should try the other wall», I yell making them all groan tiredly at me.

«Oh, come on you guys, don't tell me you're tired! I'm sure your muscles can handle a lot more than hanging up a few decorations!» I reproach teasingly.

Susan came up to me, signaling it was our time to go and I let the others know. «What! You don't get to leave and make us do all the dirty work» Tommy argued. «Yeah! We're you even going anyway?» Johnny chimes in annoyed. «We have to get our costumes, idiots!» we bicker in unison. «Bullshit, what kind of supervisor wanders off to go shopping» Johnny insisted as he crossed his arms in demand.

I made sure to get closer so that he'd be the only one to hear, «I guess you're not gonna get to see me in a hot costume then» I purred in his ear. He gulped bitterly before backing off defeated, and I noticed, also a little greedy.

«Good, I'll let Johnny be in charge while we're gone, that way he's gonna kick your asses if you slack around!» I roared and immediately caught my group's attention before loud noises of complaints echoed. He turned to smirk at me contemptuously and waved us off, as confident as ever.

Before leaving the building, I took a peek at Daniel, who was busy flirting with Ali, thankful they were too far to hear what just happened.

We weaved through racks of flamboyant outfits, our fingers grazing the soft fabrics. I reached for a sequined black gown adorned with feathers, while Susan held up a pirate captain's hat. We exchanged looks and burst into giggles, already picturing ourselves in the outlandish ensembles.

«Sue, how 'bout this?» I asked, holding up the Barbie costume with a mix of amusement and excitement. «I mean, it's so over-the-top, but it's also kind of amazing. What do you think?»

«Nothing hot about being Barbie, Y/n» Susan shrugs in disapproval. «What! What do you mean Barbie is totally hot!» I argue before giving the costume another inspection. «But I guess you're right. I need something more» I sigh defeated. But just as I was ready to give up my eyes landed on a certain something that caught my attention.

-

«You better stay away from me with that thing, cats and water aren't a good match» I joke with Daniel as we pull up to the gym's entrance door. «Well, you make a pretty great Catwoman, Y/n» he compliments kindly. I waved my claws at him in gratitude as we walked inside.

«Well, don't you guys look cute!» I tease the group of Cobra Kais, after leaving Daniel behind with Ali. They all gaped down at me in awe, their jaws so wide, I swear they almost reached the floor. «What's wrong, cat's got your tongue?» I hummed devilishly.
