I was staring at the ceiling again.
It feels like every morning, the first thing I do when I awake is stare at the ceiling.
After all, it was definitely better than going to school, right?
Plus, I didn't want to think about this stupid situation I had gotten myself into with Cayley.
Be her fake boyfriend?
Ridiculous.
I sighed, tousling my hair again.
As I tried to psyche myself up that today was going to be a productive school day, I felt a buzz from my phone beside my pillow on my bed.
Wind Flower: Don't forget to pretend that Cayley's your girlfriend now. Best of luck - see you at school! I'll offer you as much help as I can!
I sighed, involuntarily, an amused smirk formed on my face, as I tossed my phone on my bed.
Anemone really was too nice for her own good.
When was the last time someone was nice to me...?

"What are you doing?"
The young girl turned around, her bright eyes sparkling with anticipation as she saw me.
"I'm observing this flower." She responded as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
I couldn't help but frown slightly. "It's just a flower, instead of observing it, isn't admiring it good enough? If you want to waste time doing that, that is." I sighed.
She flashed a bright smile, laughing softly.
"Well, most people would think that, wouldn't they?" She smiled.
"But the most beautiful things can only be observed when you take a moment to pause and observe." She explained, beckoning me over.
With a heavy sigh, I walked over and crouched down beside her.
She was observing this magenta flower with blossoming petals, caressing the smooth buds of the flower. "Take a look." She encouraged me, as I reluctantly took a step closer and bent over, peeking inside its petals.
My breath hitched as inside, I saw another flower growing inside of this flower.
It looked like a chrysanthemum.
"Fascinating, isn't it?" She laughed, smiling warmly. "Just like a flower, human beings can also prove to surprise us if we observe enough."
I frowned at her comment. "Isn't that stalking?"
She sighed, smiling at me. "Not to that point, silly. I meant, if you even bother to approach someone, or in this case, a flower, you might find out something you never expected to find in them. Whether it pleasantly or negatively surprises you, it's still an experience to learn more about someone. I'd consider that pretty worthwhile."
I tilted my head slightly, sighing in frustration, moving my hand to the nape of my neck.
"I find this analogy to be like you, Rain." She said quietly.
Now that caught my attention. My eyes narrowed, and I glared daggers at her. "What do you mean?"
"Well," she murmured, "you seem like a rather distant and quiet person at first glance."
....
"And?"
"And you are."
I let out an irritated groan, slapping my hand to my forehead.
"Did you expect some kind of praise?" She giggled, teasing me.
"No, but-"
"I didn't see a reason to compliment you, Rain." She said honestly.
Ouch.
"I will only compliment you when I get to know the real you. I won't compliment a facade that you put on to hide your pain." She said.
At her words, my face immediately contorted in disgust.
"What would you know?" I snapped. "Don't go around making baseless assumptions about people you barely know."
She sighed.
"I'm not making baseless assumptions about you, Rain. I don't need to be a psychic to know that you're not happy." She mumbled, fiddling with her thumbs. "I can see it. From the way you talk to me, to the way you look on a daily basis."
My frown only deepened at that. What was this girl jabbering about?
"Do you realise how you look like, Rain?"
"Like crap."
"Be serious with me."
"I am."
She sighed again but let out a small chuckle and looked at me with warm eyes. But that smile faded slowly. "You look as if you want to give up forever."
Did I?
She stood up, looking at me with a sad smile. "Don't give up, okay? The sun always rises again on a new day."
And then, she turned and started walking away.
I stood there in stunned silence.
"Wait..." I mumbled, but she was getting further and further away.
"Anemone!" I yelled desperately, throwing out an arm to try and reach her, but she was too far.
Too far...

Water: Okay.
(sent 6.30am, Tuesday.)
A/N: Hey guys! So sorry this chapter is shorter than the last one, I am writing on a school night, so I tried to wrap it up faster.
This chapter is just mostly covering a bit of backstory with Rain and Anemone.
Fun fact: Rain actually named Anemone "Wind Flower" in his contacts, because the name Anemone means wind, and is also the name of a flower. Rain's contact name is just water because by brain couldn't think of anything else.
Thank you for helping this book go up to #6 on both tags of "theonewhogotaway" and "anemone", and #299 (as of this writing) out 15.5k tags in "rain"!
I hope for your continued support as I continue to write up this story!
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Love,
- nat <3
