I felt no wind when I opened my eyes, I felt warmth and a slight breeze. The sun was up and the white clouds were fluffy. It was why I loved where I lived, I never needed to tell the weather to be nice to me. Judith hadn't appeared by my side yet. Had she got lost? I doubted it. I just needed to wait. I started to walk towards the fence surrounding the field where me and my partner lived. But I stopped dead when I was halfway there; I could hear a faint whistling coming from the direction of my house at the bottom of the field. I turned my head just in time to see a sharp knife hurtling towards my head. I ducked. There was a sharp pain on the top of my ear and I straightened up, wincing. I looked at the direction the knife came from to see a tallish figure by the side of my house.
'Who are you and what was that for?!' I called out angrily. The figure started walking towards me.
'My name is Ryan, and I thought you were an imposter.'
'An imposter in my own house?' I asked tonelessly, rubbing my ear, it was bleeding.
'Sorry,' Ryan mumbled.
'Better be...' I said quietly.
'Okay, I am,' Ryan started walking back to the house. That irritated me for some reason. With my mind I controlled the long tree roots of the tree on the other side of the field to shoot up through the ground and grab Ryan's leg. He tripped and fell forward onto his chest.
'What the hell was that for?!' he yelled coughing slightly. I started towards him laughing.
'Just showing you what I can do too!' I said innocently. I got into his mind and showed him the images of me at my best with my abnormalities, and then I exited it.
'Hrmph...not bad...' he grunted while getting to his feet. He looked about the same age as me, with longish very light brown hair.
Thanks,' I replied. 'Did Branch recruit you?'
'Yes, I didn't need much convincing, really.'
'Well welcome aboard, Ryan. I'm sure you'll come in handy.'
'Happy to be of help,' he replied, without looking back as he started back to the house.
'Good start.....' I thought to myself. There was a rush of wind next to me. It seemed Judith hadn't got lost at all.
'Is that another recruit?' she asked me.
'Yes, we're making progress,' I answered her.
