13 years ago:

a five-year Sonic was playing next to the village in a small river with his group of friends, laughing and playing till 7 year old scrouge walk up to him who had a stick with a piece of string wrapped around it while the other end of the string was in the river.

'what are you doing blue?'

'Fishing'

sonic looked serious as he stared at the pond, waiting for a fish to take the string while Scrouge burst out laughing at sonic innocent reply with the others joining in when they saw the same thing.

'hahhahahah....you idiot blue. your suppose to have bait tied at the end if you want the fish to bite on the string and a stronger stick too'

sonic pout as they laughed at him and shouted 'I'll get one you see!'

'oh yeah then you'll be standing there all day with still no fish, dummy'

'shut up you'll scare the fish away' scrouge loved tormenting sonic because of his little cute antics, as it always made him laugh and decided to hand the young blue hedgehog some grapes he had in his bag.

'here you go eat these if your that hungry'

sonic eyes light up as he saw the grape and happily took them from scrouges hand, saying thank you with a big smile on his face before eating them.

'your so easy to impress sometimes, blue'

'no I'm not! and stop making fun of me!'

'aww is someone getting mad again'

scrouge continue to torment the little hedgehog but stop as saw a figure in the corner of his eye come out from the cave in the distance, nudging one of his friend in the group and pointed at the black hedgehog that was out of the cave.

'oh look boys, it's the bastard that to our village asking for help'

sonic look and saw the black hedgehog for the first time and saw the dead look in his eyes. he didn't react to scrouges comments as him and his group started picking stones and throw it at the emotionless hedgehog.

'hey stop you guys, why are you hurting him!'

'tsk, you moron blue. he's an outsider and a bastard too so he should be treated this way since are parents do the same to outsiders'

'that doesn't mean you should hurt someone for no reason'

scrouge was mad at sonic for not understanding what a bastard is but stop and pulled sonic up by his arm as he look back at shadow and yelled

'your lucky today bastard, but you better be gone by tomorrow or else! come on blue we are going home'

scrouge drag sonic away and headed back to the village all while sonic look back and couldn't help but feel sorry for the black hedgehog.

when they got back scrouge told his parents about spotting shadow near the village and they all agreed with the other parents that the kids should stay far away from him. sonic not understanding why till scrouge sat down with him and explained that a bastard is a mobian who had no father and since he also is traveling with no mother it meant he was a beggar that is looking for a home but the village they lived in don't bring in strangers because they were Strick and believe that they should only take care of their own.
