This was one of those times when I regretted living so far away from Kay. She obviously needed me now and I was an hour away! "Kay calm down. I'll be there in 45 minutes and then we can talk about it. Just go take a shower and calm down honey. I'll see you soon!"
"Okay Pay, come fast. I need you," Kaylee sniffled.
"I love you!" I said as I hung up and rushed around the house to get my things so I could stay at her apartment for a while. Whoever did this to my sister was going to get to know my fist. As I got into my truck, I knew that I'd have to call Elyse. Damn! I've been getting good at avoiding her. For so long, El was like a kid sister to me but then, she grew up. She grew up well. I couldn't put it off any longer and I dialed the number that I have had memorized for years.
"Pay! What's up? I feel like I haven't seen or heard from you in forever," Elyse said in a husky voice. God I've missed her. "Pay? Are you still there? Today you McCalskis are inattentive." She laughed.
"I'm still here. I called to talk about Kaylee." I replied.
"Shit!" Elyse cursed. "It's worse than I thought it was! When I was talking to her, she wasn't too bad, but she called you! Shit! Shit! Shit! This is bad. What did Kaylee tell you about Hunter?"
"Hunter is involved!" I yelled. "Hasn't that bastard done enough yet? When Kay told me about him, I really didn't want to hear it because her sex life is gross. She told me how he treated her and I wanted to beat the punk up, but Kay wouldn't let me touch him. What did he do?" I demanded. Kaylee and I were close and the fact that she didn't tell me that Hunter was involved hurt. How was I supposed to help her if she didn't talk to me?
"Calm down Pay! I think that it's just a misunderstanding. When we were at the club on Friday, they talked and seemed to have overcome their issues, but somewhere between the club and when he took her home, it went wrong." Elyse explained which fueled my anger. How could El have let my baby sister leave the club with that douche? "He was protective and attentive. It looked like Kaylee and Hunter were going to forget the past and move on. She seemed so excited about it all, but that could have been because she was a little drunk-we all were."
"So you let my drunk sister go home with the guy who shattered her two years ago?" I asked incredulously. "Don't answer that because obviously you thought that it was okay. How could you be so irresponsible El? When I get there I'm going to-".
Elyse cut me off with a snort. "Both you and Kay blamed me for Friday night but its not my fault. Your sister is a grown woman and so am I, so calm down! Kay was the one who decided to go home with Hunter, and you and I both know that when she has her mind set, we can't change it. Kaylee is 24 years old Pay. You have to let her make and fix her own mistakes."
"I'm sorry Elyse, you're right. It's just hard because she is my baby sister and I have always helped her out when she's needed me. I guess I am being overbearing, but I won't let Hunter get away with causing her this pain again."
"It's okay Pay. Do you want me to go wait with her now?" Elyse asked. "And don't speed to get here because it's not worth a ticket!"
"That sounds good El. I'm glad that Kay always has you because sometimes I'm too far away. I've been thinking about applying for the open Graphic Design position at BBPH. That way, if I get the job, I'll be closer to Kaylee when she needs me."
"OMG! YES!" Elyse squeals into the phone. "Payton, I could kiss you right now I'm so happy!" Elyse continued to babble about me getting the job and what we could do but my mind is no longer on the conversation. She said she could kiss me, which is something I have wanted to do since she turned 16. I was too old for her back then. 21 to her 16. There have been so many times I've imagined biting her bottom lip and then finally getting a taste of her. I felt myself getting hard and scolded myself. What kind of bastard fantasizes about his baby sister's best friend? This is why I have kept my distance and must continue to do so.
"I'm excited too. Thanks for taking care of Kay for me. I better focus on driving the rest of the way there. I'll see you later." I said as I ended the call. I felt like a prick for hanging up on her before she could respond, but where Elyse Mitchel is concerned, I have no self-control. Right now, I should be thinking about Kaylee and how I should kick Hunter's ass for hurting her again, but my thoughts revolve around El. I blare some music to distract me from my musings.

I pulled into Kaylee's extra parking spot and hopped out of the truck. The rest of the car ride I attempted to think of ways to help Kaylee. I hope that at least one of my ideas is useful because I can't stand it when she is hurting.
Fitting my key in the lock, I open the door with a knock to announce my presence. Before I can shut the door, the girls come at me and I stumble back at the force of their hugs. "I've missed you girls too," I whispered as I hugged them back. It has really been too long since I've seen my girls. But Kaylee will always take precedence.
