LORI
Monica is sitting across from me on one of my couches, with my laptop perched in her lap as she scrolls through the comments on my Youtube video. "Damn, girl. This shit blew up!" she tells me as if I don't already know, and I sigh loudly.
"Don't remind me." I groan and hug the black couch cushion closer to my chest. I didn't know this video would get the response it did, but wow, did I underestimate social media's power?
The video was at 1.5 million views already, and it's only been up for less than 48 hours. I wasn't expecting any of this at all. I woke up with emails from TMZ and smaller youtube pop culture and commentary channels asking for me to interview so I could talk more about the situation with Nathan.
I only had about a quarter of a million subscribers before all of this, and now I was almost at 600K.
This was crazy.
My views on some of my other videos have also skyrocketed.
I just hope it hasn't reached Nathan or his people yet. If it has, then they haven't commented yet, but I know a statement or something is coming. They're probably gonna drag me and make me out to be a liar and an attention seeker when I was neither. I was just an angry girl who had a bad experience at a concert with a guy who couldn't care less about how much his fans adore him to the point that he'll blatantly act like an ass because of it.
I've seen how The Wright Ones people have handled conflict in the past.
It was a quick PR statement that was obviously written by someone on their team, and within a few days, the drama was forgotten. But not when it was drama where girls were involved. Usually, the girl gets torn down for ruining the image of a celebrity, and no one usually takes up for her.
A video that I shared with my small camp of subscribers became a national story, and it was something I didn't even anticipate for a second otherwise, I wouldn't have released it. I considered putting the video on private, but there was no use. People had screen recorded most of it.
It was only a matter of time before I got a cease-and-desist order from Nathan and his team.
"So what happens now?" Monica asks, "Are you gonna make another video to try and calm things down?"
"Even if I do, it's not going to do much. I went hard in that video - I even spoke to him directly. I didn't think anyone would care this much about it. Do you know how many videos people have detailing their bad experience with a celebrity - it's never gone this viral. Girl, I'm probably gonna get sued for fucking defamation of fucking character. I don't have the coins to cough up for him if this goes to court!"
"You're so dramatic all the time it's beginning to get harder to take you seriously," she laughs out loud, practically cackling at my demise.
"Monica!"
"Lori!" she laughs and puts my laptop on the table. "Look if you're so worried. Turn the comments off. I know it won't stop anything because they've been going in on him on Twitter, but if you're so worried about being sued, which you won't, turning off the comments will make it look like you still care about his image."
I sighed, agreeing that she was right, and I stood up from the couch, walked to the table to grab my laptop, and began to do exactly what she said, turning the comments off of the video.
Closing my laptop lid, I sit back down on the couch and start thinking of every possible scenario of what could happen next.
Nathan and brothers could come out and denounce my story, trying to call me a liar, and I look back, causing me to also lose my subscribers and supporters because then they'll think I'm an attention whore,
Or Nathan and his team could sue me - that news would eventually make it to TMZ. The amount they sue me for could be more than I'm worth. I tell them that I don't have that kind of money, they give me an ultimatum that I could either go to court or tell people that I lied about the story for attention.
Either way, my reputation will be trashed, and I may never be able to leave my house again.
I'm screwed.
I feel something touch my shoulder repeatedly, and I look at it to see it's Monica's finger tapping me. "Girl, you spaced out." she said to me, beginning to look worried, "Lori, stuff like this happens all the time. You're a public figure, and so is he - it'll all work out; you just have to wait for things to unfold and for the dust to settle." she says, sitting on the couch next to me rubbing her back, "You sitting here and thinking about it is only gonna make you go crazy. They're celebrities that have had some crazy ass issues in the past and have associated themselves with equally crazy ass people. This story - someone saying they were rude when they met them is not gonna be the end of the world."
"You're right." I nod, "I'm overthinking all of this. They're probably not even gonna reach out to me anyway. They might even wait for all of this to blow over."
"Yup. The silent treatment." Monica says, "Acting like nothing happened. Not giving a response. It's very Beyonce coded if you ask me." I nod at her response, forgetting that that could also be an option when it comes to how they choose to handle things, "You need to take your mind off things." she smirks
I lean back and give her a raised eyebrow, "How?" I ask
"Crack open that bottle of Patron I saw in your liquor cabinet and turn the music on because I'm gonna make sure that by the time you go to sleep, Nathan will be the last thing on your mind."
