"Are you sure he'll like it?" Seungmin took a sip from his cup of tea as he eyed the simple heart-shaped pendant hanging from a rather thin gold chain in Jisung's hands.
Jisung groaned at Seungmin's response. "I don't know! That's why I'm here asking you guys!"
Hyunjin patted Jisung on the back, flashing the younger a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Sung. Minho hyung will love anything you give him as long as it's from you."
Seungmin sighed as he set his tea cup down on the wooden table. "As much as I hate to admit it, the ferret is right. You can give Minho hyung an old, dirty boot and he will cherish it for years."
Hyunjin chuckled. "Seungminnie's right. Minho is head over heels for you Jisung. There's no way he won't like it."
Jisung sighed, his fingers tracing the delicate curves of the heart-shaped pendant. "I know but I just feel like it's not enough. It's his birthday and I want it to be special. Plus, there's going to be tons of nobles at that banquet gifting him many things of value. Coming to the banquet with a simple pendant is simply humiliating!"
Hyunjin hummed. "I mean...it's gold, so it's not that worthless." He paused for a second before continuing. "Wait...how did you even get this pendant? Out of the many jewelry I've seen, this design is one I never came across."
"Oh..I uh...stole it... in a way.." Jisung averted his gaze, staring at the floor awkwardly. He knew Hyunjin didn't really approve of his acts of theft.
Seungmin took another sip from his cup. "What do you mean by 'in a way' ?"
"Well.. I stole the gold from this count since he had quite a lot. As for the ruby, my friend Chan gave it to me. He said it would make a good present for a loved one. So I went to a local goldsmith and had them make the pendant for me."
Hyunjin's eyes widened. "You stole from a count?! I thought you said you would stop stealing from nobles!"
Jisung's shoulders slumped. "I know I said I would but I told Minho to stop paying me once we got together and I needed some sort of income. These villages are so poorly funded, you know. Many people struggle to pay their debts and eventually die of hunger. I couldn't just stop helping them."
Seungmin leaned back in his chair, a mix of concern and understanding on his face. "Jisungie, normally I don't really care whether you steal or not but it's starting to get dangerous. You are wanted here for god's sake! They may not know your name or face but if you get caught one day, it's over."
Jisung clenched his fists, eyes clouded with worry. "I know, Seungmin. But I have no choice. If I don't do something, who will?"
Hyunjin placed his hand on Jisung's. "Look Sung, stealing is just wrong. Nobles are humans too. Besides, once the king dies and the crown prince takes over, maybe it'll be different."
Jisung sighed, his gaze fixed on the pendant in his hands. "Maybe. But enough talk about this. How can I make this pendant special?"
Seungmin's eyes sparkled mischievously as he leaned forward. "Why don't I enchant it for you?"
Seungmin's suggestion piqued Jisung's curiosity, his eyes widening with anticipation. "Enchant it? What do you mean?"
A sly smile played on Seungmin's lips as he leaned even closer. "I have my ways, Jisungie. As a witch, I can infuse the pendant with a magical charm. It will add a touch of enchantment and make it truly unique."
